Benchmarks: AS SSD Benchmark

Although the G.Skill Falcon II 128GB suffered from poor write performance in the CrystalDiskMark test, it did considerably better in this first AS SSD Benchmark. Measuring sequential write speeds we found that the G.Skill Falcon II is on par with the Crucial M225 before the firmware update. However, with the TRIM feature enabled the Crucial M225's write performance jumped by a massive 47%, beating the Falcon II by a good margin.

In the 4K test we see the same trend repeating itself – strong read performance and poor write speeds. With a read throughput of 28MB/s the G.Skill Falcon II provides one of the best results we have seen from an SSD, while its 8MB/s for the write test is one of the worst.

The Crucial M225 saw a significant drop in read performance when updated with the latest firmware to support Windows 7's TRIM functionality but also a slight rise in write speeds. Compared to the G.Skill Falcon II 128GB it offered lower read speeds and superior write performance.

In our access times benchmark the G.Skill Falcon II 128GB delivered the best result of the bunch when it comes to reading. Unsurprisingly, that was far from being the case when writing. The only other SSD to show poorer write performance was the Corsair P128 which uses the Samsung RBB controller.
