No sound

bielius

Hello,
I'm bielius this is my first post in these forums!
So im having a trouble with my sound drivers.
I have formatted my hard drive, and the first thing i did was going to google up the realtek ac97 drivers(4.06 newest version)
and, after downloading them, i have installed them.
and there was no sound after reboot.
so i went to device manager and looked up those drivers.
and there was none of them!
so i have tryed several downloads from different sites, and all thing is same. no sound drivers in device manager.
i'm running out of solutions.
oh, and im not a new user, i can do some things with computer :)
write here if you need my cp information...
Thanks!

It appears you have the incorrect drivers, or the drivers you downloaded are faulty.
One trick that is often helpful as a last resort is to download older versions of the drivers and attempt to install those.
Also, you may have to go to System->Hardware->Device Manager, and remove or disable whatever is there before you run a new install.

Thanks for your reply!
This is offtopic:
I have opened event viewer, and i saw this:
Reached crypt32 threshold of 50 events and will suspend logging for 60 minutes

For more information, see Help and Support Center at .
What this could mean?

i will say that installing older ver of drivers didn't helped.
thanks for your post and waiting for more help!

For integrated sound drivers go to the PC manufacturer's website (Dell, HP, etc.). If the PC is self built or custom built, go to the motherboard manufacturer's website for the appropriate driver.

My mobo model is p4m80-m4 by Biostar. i will go and download them now :) thanks for your advice! waiting for other help :)

No, they didnt worked too. waiting for other responses.

Just in case, exactly how are you installing the driver?

bielius
02-04-2009, 02:15 PM
Downloading, and double pressing =) , i got drivers by manufacter, from A3.60 til A4.06 drivers... i'm out of solutions :(
EDIT:
drivers by manufacter are very strange because:
it runs winzip self extract thingy and says like silent install-numbers- without reboot or something... other drivers install as usual with installation wizard.

BUMP :( i need responses :(

You might try uninstalling the old sound driver through Add and Remove Programs if it appears there and after restarting the PC, reinstall the latest one you have from Biostar. Sometimes installing new drivers over old ones doesn't work well.

bielius

no, it didn't work either. mayby its a virus fault? or something...

i got drivers by manufacter, from A3.60 til A4.06 drivers...As far as I can tell the driver you should be using is A3.55 from here: Biostar (http://www.biostar-usa.com/mbdownloads.asp?model=P4M80-M4)

Have you tried this driver yet? There might be newer drivers but they might not be compatible with your older motherboard. The A3.55 driver seems to be the one listed on the Biostar website.

Thanks man i will try them now!

The thing bad is that from either Realtek and biostar sites it downloads VERY slowly.

question:
do i need to have directX installed?

I think your issue is related to your other post

http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic121585.html

And should be addressed after any Malware is handled! As it may be fixed after that anyway!

It won't hurt, but that should not be the source of the problem.

can't get them work, after doing 8steps, installing drivers by Biostar, with directX .net , k-lite codec pack...

Any possibility that your speakers are burned out from being overdriven? Too much volume too long will ruin some speakers and result in the problem you describe.

Go to Start->Control Panel->System->Hardware->Device Manager and look for any yellow or red flags in the list of devices. Click on sound to extend the list and see if there are any yellow, red, or black flags anywhere in the sound category.
Those flags, if they exist, (or if they are absent) will tell you a lot about what needs to be done next.

bielius
02-07-2009, 02:17 PM
no they can't be something psychical damage, because i don't get any realtek drivers information in device manager.
for instance, if i open Media Player it just says that it's a problem with your sound device.

raybay
02-07-2009, 02:20 PM
The problem with the sound device can be that the sound "driver" or speaker head is burned out... thus it does not communicate with the sound device driver. Can also be a broked wire in the speaker cable, or the power adapter that plugs into the wall, if there is one.

Hi bielius

I'd like to take look at some details of your system and driver issues.

Check if Windows reports any problem devices

Click Start->Run, enter: msinfo32
Click the + sign next to Components to expand it
Click Problem Devices. Anything appear?
If yes, click on it, then Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy Paste into next post

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Generate a DirectX report

click Start->Run, enter dxdiag
Notice progress in lower left window corner
When done, click Save Information button and save to your Desktop
In TechSpot, use the paper clip icon to attach the report. (If you don't see icon you may need to first cick Go Advanced)

The problem with your sound device could be that your power adapter to the speaker(s) is bad, or that the magnetic core in the center of one or more speakers is bad, or that the wire on the speaker core has burned out due to escessive driving of the speaker, or that a wire or plug is broken or disconnected.
A number of different types of damage or failure from being overdriven can cause the driver information to disappear... or to be flagged in device manager.... look for red, yellow, or black flags...
Media Player gets its information from what, do you think?
Have you considered replacing the speakers with a borrowed pair so as to test the system.
Have you gone to Device Manager and removed or disabled exisiting sound drivers, the reinstalling them from a clean download?

I've tryed my headphones too. by the way,
i have reformated my windows, and the only problem in device manager is VGA(i have not installed my graphics card drivers)
i have only installed sound drivers downloaded from manufacter site! its completely fresh windows!

Dxdiag thing attached.

i just did a quick skim and haven't tried looking at your motherboard info yet (can do so later. just not the time right now)

but my immediate comments;
1. Do you have an onboard sound card on the motherboard? As i don't even see a sound device listed. Check your BIOS to make sure it's enabled
2. Some of your motherboard chips may not have their drivers. Check if all your chipset drivers for your motherboard are installed. I haven't checked each onboard chip device i see but the drivers don't appear all there (WHICH MIGHT BE OK or could be the reason your computer can't communicate with a sound card)

mayby its jumper's problem/corrupt/etc?

Here's how i see it

Neither the DirectX diagnostic report nor msinfo32 Problem Devices have any reference to your onboard sound card's hardware ID (hwid)

At minimum, your sound card hwid should appear either as an "Unknown Device" or a sound device
But NOT simply not appearing (other then reasons below)

I'm not sure exactly which VIA sound chip is on your mother board but based on the set of possible chips, I predict its hwid should begin as: PCI\VEN_1106&DEV_30
=> the remainder of the string will vary based on specific chip. If you do a text search you won't find ANY hwid that matches this
Your computer should "sense" the sound card hwid whether or not the driver is working and whether or not the driver is even installed! Things that would prevent the computer from sensing it

It's disabled in the BIOS (advise you check settings even if you haven't disabled it yourself)
It's disabled in your current hardware profile. (fyi Hardware profiles only apply to XP. They don't exist in Vista). Find the sound card in Device Manager rt click Properties. In General tab, look at bottom of window to see if Device Usage is disabled in current or all hardware profiles
It's disabled via a jumper setting on your motherboard

There's no immediate indication of a problem with your chipset or chipset drivers

raybay
02-07-2009, 10:27 PM
Right, except it will not detect if some chips are damaged or burned. What you describe only works with active components.

LookinAround
02-07-2009, 10:50 PM
Correct. But it many of such cases it's also accompanied by different types of error reports for the system or other motherboard devices - none of which are seen here. But certainly sometimes no error reports.

But the basic issue being before suggesting and exploring the remote, less likely possible causes (which also mean hardware swapping, buying new parts, etc).. i don't think they've even yet tackled the 3 most likely and simple causes listed.

/* EDIT */
Or is there any evidence yet that rule out this an active component that has just been disabled?

bielius
02-08-2009, 03:50 AM
It is enabled and working.
but the problem is that my speakers/phones/wires/jack in mobo/jumpers causing some problems.

P.S. i have experienced one more thing..-
when i tried the phones wire getting into the right output, i did nor hear any sound, but when i tryed into microhpone jack it was something like tzzzz hrrrt sounds.i mean not like just getting it in, but several times geting in & getting out.
umm when i get to BIOS i get something like-

Onboard PCI-> <numbers> onboard realtek ac97 sound chip.
could that mean something?

Waiting for help and responses! thanks guys for being with me whole 32 posts :O

Sound is just not that difficult. Easy compared to early all other computer problems. I hope you have tried the obvious things such as testing your speakers on a friend's computer, and testing their speakers on yours.
There comes a time when you have to go back to fundamentals and start a check list.

For a few things you might do to help check

Create another DirectX report BUT instead of providing the entire report would you please just provide the section on System Devices (as an example, my prior post here was your display in the last DirectX report)you'll see all the System Devices listed in the old report. Just so i can see the list of new devices that appear
Use DirectX to help you troubleshoot your sound problem (see any buttons it provides under Sound1, Sound2 and More Help tabs
See this link for an excellent tutorial on your computer Sound card, jack and plug hook-ups

If none of that seems to help and you need info on new sound cards, you are best to create a new thread in Audio/Video forum to ask other users for their input.

Good luck!

/* EDIT */
Ooops. And here;s the link to the tutorial!!! (http://atr.k12.hi.us/tutorials/tutorials/sound/index.htm)

http://img177.imageshack.us/img177/wowpo0.png/1/w534.png (http://g.imageshack.us/img177/wowpo0.png/1/)

my mobo audio jumpers.

and one more question- from the picture below; what are the jumpers for the line out jack? thanks for your help!

http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/wow2tw4.png/1/w534.png (http://g.imageshack.us/img10/wow2tw4.png/1/)

EDIT!

those jumpers going from the front panel(mic in and line out) are named:
mic gnd;
mic data;
ear l;
ear r.

and the question:
what jumper should go in what pin/assignment?

mailpup
02-09-2009, 10:09 PM
I'd say:
mic gnd = pin 2
mic data = pin 1
ear l = 5 & 6
ear r = 9 & 10

Your ear l and ear r connectors have two each female connectors don't they?

BTW, you keep calling them jumpers. That's why some of your other posts didn't make sense to me. They're header pins that are attached to connectors. They're not jumpers. Some motherboards do use jumpers on the header pins to switch from front to rear panels but not yours.

TheConqueror

lets go back to the root of the problem so you formatted your hdd right? I am going to assume that you meant you reinstalled your op system. If all else fails reinstall the OS using a different disc assuming you have a generic OEM for windows. Depending on your MOBO you can aslo try installing a generic sound driver for testing purposes. Viruses are not know to directly target sound drivers as it will not necesarily affect the users ability to use the computer. just to make sure if it is a custom PC go by the MOBO to install the specific drivers if it is a name brand such as hp go trough the manufacturer for the drivers and lastly go trough windows update as most of the time updating the computer will install any missing drivers in some cases. Windows update not express do custom and check the hardware updates if they are available.
btw all drivers aside it is always a good idea to keep the computer updated with any and all service packs XD

bielius

ok thank you very much for the knowledge! now i will talk right :)
yes my earl and ear r connectors have two each connectors;
what does mean female connectors?

LookinAround

Audio plugs are referred to as the "female" connector

Jacks are referred to as the "male" connector

Here is another excellent link (http://jdvoicemail.altervista.org/imagenes/audioguide.pdf) to a document on how to connect audio plugs to your audio jacks on your computer. It might help you determine plug/jack connections while mailpup helps you get the audio headers correct

And refer to prior link also in prior post for Sound overview i think is can be helpful

the link still doesn't work for you? hmm..that's odd. but i attached a zipped version of the file. (It is a .pdf file.)

I am assuming you already have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer? (it's typically installed as Adobe .pdf files are quite common to find on the internet)

If by chance you don't have it installed already, click here to install Adobe Reader (http://get.adobe.com/reader/)

As to your remaining sound questions
In general, I know lots about Windows devices, device drivers, how they relate and talk to one another. But i'm far less familiar with the details of your specific hardware you ask about in your latest questions. So i defer to others who i'm sure will follow up with answers later (is only late morning/early afternoon here in the US. i'm sure you'll get answers as the day continues!)

Those blue slots are PCI slots. Those are for expansion cards like modems, sound cards, additional USB connections, wireless adapters, etc., etc.

I'm not sure about the purpose of the jumpers on those pins. I'll guess that they need to be in place if you were to use the rear panel connectors for surround sound.

The red connector appears to be a USB connector from the front panel. Plug it into one of the USB headers. It's keyed (one corner pin is blank) so you can't install it wrong.

the thing is that... the red connector is not usb. it's firewire!

Do you mean a "Y" connector or "Why" connector ? Also known as a "Splitter"
There are just about every connector you can possibly imagine, but sometimes impossible to find who sells them.

Although the connectors might physically fit, I don't think the firewire will work with the USB connectors.

I don't know if this is exactly what you had in mind but this USB bracket plugs into one of your two USB headers. Newegg example (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812191093). I'm not saying you should necessarily get this particular model but this is the kind of thing you could get.
