SZySZeC 05-29-2005, 12:01 PM Unfortunately I have the same problem as previous writers :( Still restarts, "error caused by a device driver" and while I am having BSoD there are "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONEPAGED_AREA", or "BAD_POOL_CALLER", or "MEMORY_MANAGEMENT"... Also I have started program called "memtest" and so far I had 780 errors... It is still working :( (I am using other pc). As others do, I add my 5 minidumps. Oh, I've forgotten - sometimes I also have "error caused by a graphics driver" but I updated nvidia drivers, nothing changed, I installed back "original" drivers and problem still happens :( :/ And that 780 errors in memory... Ad 05-29-2005, 12:01 PM howard_hopkinso 05-29-2005, 02:55 PM Hello and welcome to Techspot. Take out your ram modules, and clean the contacts with an eraser. Blow away the remnants and replace, then run the Memtest programme again and check for errors. If after doing this Memtest is still showing errors, then change the ram. If after changing the ram, the bsod`s continue then maybe your psu could be at fault. Regards Howard   maree464 05-29-2005, 03:10 PM HI, I am having a the same problem, my Windows XP keeps on restarting. It shuts down and reboots at various times. Mostly when trying to switch users, it will restart. I get the same message from the Microsoft Online Crash Analysis saying it is a device driver. I turned off the "Automatic Restart" option but it still restarts and I never get a blue screen. After the reboot a .dump file is created but i cant read it. How can i find out why XP is crashing? How can I read the .dmp file? and will it give me an error so I can post it here? Thanks. zephead 05-29-2005, 09:45 PM i'd suspect a memory problem. run the windows memory tester (find it through google) or memtest. For the past week or so I've been having much the same/similar problem that alot of people seem to be posting about on this thread. Up until recently I've never had a prob... Now what happens is a reboot upon game loading. Two examples are enemy territory and republic commando. I'm not having any probs with any other applications or media. Just with games. Of course, I receieve a BSOD as soon as I attempt to load a game with the following error code but no reference to any files. ***STOP 0x0000008E (0xC000008E, 0x00541DDE, 0xF2C559B0, 0x00000000) Now what's really confusing me, is that I reformatted today to try and fix prob. I installed a game or two and they ran straight away without any rebooting. However, once I had restarted and attemtped to run them again, the BSOD was back, forcing a reboot. Furthermore... certain other games will still run, however, the requirements for them to run correctly are alot less than the more power hungry games that will no longer run... I have checked RAM and I'm fairly sure it's not the prob, as memtest reports no errors. However, I'm under the impression from research that it is A) A driver problem with my gf4800ti, which, I know is outdated now but has never given me a prob before. B) The card itself is overheating or gone faulty. @cpc2004, I see you have extensive knowledge in these areas and have been providing great assistance I would be ever so greatful if you or someone else could take a peak at my included minidumps and perhaps shed some slight on what might need replacing/re-installing. On a final note, I have the latest 71.89 Nvidia drivers and have attemtped installing earlier drivers but to no avail, however, as I have said, I havent had a prob up until now and have always been able to install the latest drivers without a prob. Thanks for your time! EDIT: Since this post, I have installed and successfully run several games, including Swat 4, Return of the King and Battle for Middle Earth. Once again, some games are loading and playing fine, whereas others will just reboot as soon as I attempt to run/load them. Generally, if I do a clean install of a game and then run the game, it will load fine first time and play fine, however, if I then reboot or simply close the game and leave it for a while, the reboot problem and BSOD will surface on the second attempt to run/load the game... I'm getting very frustrated with this as you can imagine as I primarily use my machine to play games... I'm going to switch out the 4800ti and temporarily put in an oldish 9200 pro and see what results I get. Somebody has also suggested to me that the PSU may be on its way out or HD may be failing... LA Fred 06-08-2005, 12:44 AM I kept getting the same message as well as the feedback screens from Microsoft. I kept ignoring them for a while. They wouldn’t go away, so I thought I might as well start doing something about them. I found that each Knowledgebase article led to two or three other Knowledgebase articles. Before long, I had a pile of papers spilling off my desk and was “working” with files, subfolders and whatnot that I never dreamed were inside my computer. It was interesting and very time consuming, but it didn’t help. Also, I knew that, with my record, it wouldn’t be long before I really screwed something up. Then, I stumbled across a software package by the name of “Registry Mechanic.” I ran it a few times and haven’t had a problem for two weeks (knock on wood). I don’t know if that software fixed the problem or it was something else I did. But since I have already paid for it, I’ll continue to run it every week or so – just in case. By the way, I do not work for whoever makes that software. I had never heard of them until they popped up on a Google search. yummytofu5 06-10-2005, 02:38 PM Hi, I've been having problems with my new Sony VIAO (RB42G) computer that I just purchased last week (Windows Media Center 2005; I gig 3200 RAM; Intel Pentium 4 Processor) . In addition, I bought an ATI Radeon 700PRO card to install in the VIAO. It will randomly restart, so I set my computer to create minidumps. The problem hasn't been bad...yet, but it's annoying. I've seen that a lot of problems happen to be caused by the video card or its drivers, but I'm not sure if my card is the trouble maker. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! cpc2004 06-10-2005, 03:27 PM Yummytofu5, The debug report shows that the culprit is SYMEVENT which is nortan anti-virus. BugCheck 1000008E, {c0000005, a6c212b7, a510693c, 0} Probably caused by : SYMEVENT.SYS ( SYMEVENT+b2b7 ) Upgrade Norton AV to most current patch or downlevel Norton AV to a lower level. You may de-install Norton AV and install NOMAD32. Tedster 06-10-2005, 03:34 PM Run memtest. Your MB memory could be flakey. I had problems with my old computer rebooting. I will give a call to the peeps that assemble the PC for me tomorrow. :D Thanks again! Bookerman 06-13-2005, 01:58 PM Right, I decided to try fixing myself. So, here's what I found out, its the NAM thats causing the trouble. So, I have removed the NAM, and now I'm downloading nForce4 Standalone Kit (6.53) from the site and I'm trying to update the bios of my Asus A8N SLI NForce4, but damn, I tried Asus's update, but it couldn't connect. :suspiciou Any ideas to get my bios updated? :p Bookerman 06-13-2005, 03:31 PM Alright, a update. The NAM refuse to remove itself from the add/remove programs. But the data for it has already gone. NAM doesn't work at all, except the firewall tray. Why? Confused. Everything's alright now. Just that I can't get the bios updated. cpc2004 06-13-2005, 06:29 PM The problem is the nVidia NIC driver. Why do you want to upgrade the BIOS? Bookerman 06-13-2005, 10:57 PM what i found out is that nividia's firewall and NAM thats causing the ethernet driver problem. So, I removed them. And updating of bios is just what i wanna do myself, not related. Tedster 06-13-2005, 11:17 PM I wouldn' t use an onboard firewall. Use zonealarm. At least you can see what it is letting or not letting in or out. Zonealarm is "smart" and will learn while you train it. SoleAngelus 06-15-2005, 08:38 PM Hello, i am also having the problem where my computer keeps restarting itself, i have now disabled the automatic restart function thanks to this article, but havnt seen th BSOD yet. This problem usually occurs when i run a system scan with Norton Antivirus 2005, or when playing games (Call of Duty : Uninted Offensive), i have tried updating my drivers and this dosnt seen to help, when using the error reporting function in XP it says "Error Caused By A Device Driver" it but dosn't specify which one. I would really appreciate anyones help on this error, its driving me crazy, sorry if this is getting anyone to repeat themselves, but i really need the help! My system specs:- XP Pro SP2 AMD 1.40Ghz 512MB of RAM ASUS Radeon 9200se 128mb graphics card I also have a tv card installed that has given me trouble before, but i seem to hav sorted that out. Thanks in advance Tedster 06-15-2005, 09:51 PM ok, now it's sounding like a memory issue. run MEMTEST on your memory. SoleAngelus 06-15-2005, 10:03 PM Thanks tedster, i have metest on a boot floppy, and have run it once before, do i have to wait untill it says it has done, or will it go on a continuous cycle unitll i stop it? SoleAngelus 06-15-2005, 10:17 PM In my first post i said i hadnt got the BSOD, seems like i spoke to soon, i just had to restart and i got this information.... IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL *** STOP : 0x0000000A (0xFECEF5C0, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x804FEC2D9) i also got this minidump.... Tedster 06-16-2005, 12:01 AM Run it for at least 7 passes. If you get a problem, remove all memory sticks except one. Then run a test on that one. If that passes, swap out sticks. retest. If that passes, then go back to one stick and move to the next slot. Restest. swap sticks, repeat. That way you are testing both the sticks and the slots. My old computer recently developed a bad memory slot. Each stick would test ok, but when all 3 were combined, they tested bad. Turned out my slot 3 went bad on the motherboard. If that is the case, you have two choices, get another motherboard, or increase your stick size and avoid that slot. if you just have bad memory, replace it. SoleAngelus 06-16-2005, 09:10 AM Thanks tedster....ill try it later today, what about the Stop Error on the BSOD, is this the same thing or sumat different? Tedster 06-16-2005, 09:32 AM a lot of stop errors can be caused by bad memory. I developed a similar error when one of my memory slots went bad. Of course the stop error could be something else as well. SoleAngelus 06-16-2005, 09:40 AM Ok......thanks again tedster...ill try what you said, and then post back here weather it worked or not... thanks again Tedster 06-16-2005, 11:08 AM weather? I hope it doesn't rain on you!!! hahahahaha good luck - let memtest run for a while. overnight if possible. The longer the better, but at least 7 passes bigger memory will take longer processing SoleAngelus 06-16-2005, 11:16 AM lol....ok i need some help on how to run memtest.... first i just let i boot up and it ran fro two passes and it didnt seem to find anything, the i pressed "C" on my keybpard to look at the config and changed the Memory Sizeing from "STD" to "ALL".... It then went on to find thousands of errors......i dnt kno if i should have changed it though.... Should i just have let it run in STD mode, but left it for longer? Help appreciated tedster....(or anyone) SoleAngelus 06-16-2005, 11:21 AM oh and i would like to k no what version of memtest to get...or dosn't it matter.....i got myne from here.... http://www.memtest.org/ help appreciated... Tedster 06-16-2005, 11:23 AM don't change the default configuration. Let it run for 7 passes or more. Then if no faults, your memory is ok If you have faults, remove all memory sticks except the first stick in the first slot test it. then move that stick to the second slot, test it in that slot then 3rd.... etc.... if that stick and slots are good, then swap with second stick of memory test the second stick by itself. move to next slot.... etc... after you test all sticks, you'll know which stick or slot is bad. A bad slot can be avoided on a motherboard, but cannot be replaced. The only solution for a bad slot is increase your stick sizes and avoid the slot or replace the motherboard a bad stick can just be replaced always purchase the same types of memory and sizes/speed to avoid problems. DDR memory should be bought in pairs (for example: two 512MB sticks instead of ONE 1 gig stick), the motherboard will use the bandwidth of two sticks instead of one and run faster. only purchase memory from manufactuers known to be compatible with your motherboard. RTFM! don't buy cheapo memory, you get what you pay for (i.e. 3rd party no-name brands) SoleAngelus 06-16-2005, 11:29 AM Ok... thanks a lot Tedster, ill go an do that now, agian ill post back later....
