XxhvymtxX 03-05-2005, 10:33 PM  I deleted my Soundmax driver in my add/Remove programs. I thought it was junk. Now iam getting this message "Bad Directsound driver. Please install proper drives or another device in config. Well I went ahead and downloaded a new Soundmax driver and tried to download it and it said "Driver not found! Rebot your systeam and try again so I did and nothing. Iam computer illiterate and dont know what to do. what should I do now? Thank-you very much.
luvhuffer 03-06-2005, 07:32 AM You have the driver downloaded to the hard drive right? OK Go to start my computer right click on it and hit propertie. Go to hardware tab and hit device manager. Open sound video and game controllers. Double click on your sound adapter and go to the driver tab. Hit update driver. The hardware update wizard will open. Check install from specific location and hit next. Select "Don't Search.." then click Next. Highlight your adapter and Click "Have Disk..." button. Click "Browse..." button and then select the driver location on the hard drive. highlight the driver then hit open. It ays copy manufacturers file from and shows the location. Now click "OK" button. Check Show compatable hardware and highlight your adapter. Click Next. If you get a has not passed inspection window, select "Continue anyway". If it asks to overwrite the file say yes. Reboot when asked and when the system restarts wait for the balloon in the lower right corner to say the device is installed. All done.
XxhvymtxX 03-06-2005, 01:00 PM Ive come to the point were Iam at the screen with different hardwear types. There are all kinds but I went into "Disk drivers" but I cant find the adapter iam looking for. What is the adapter called? I dont think that the soundmax driver is on my hard drive because evertime I run the setup and says "Driver not found!" what is this drive its talking about? Is there somthing I have to disable? Iam running windows XP if that helps any. I know iam confusing but bare with me lol.
luvhuffer 03-06-2005, 02:32 PM Do you have a seperate sound card or is the sound on the motherboard? If it's a card what card? If it's on board the mobo what make and model of the mobo.
XxhvymtxX 03-06-2005, 05:19 PM Funny enough I was messing around with it earlier and found a device that works. I had to go through Dell in order to get the correct device for my comp. I very much appreciate your help. God bless and Thank-you. :grinthumb
shnishi 10-15-2005, 05:43 PM I have unistalled soundmax from the add/remove section on the control panel. I followed the instructions to get it back until it said: "Double click on your sound adapter and go to the driver tab. Hit update driver." Where is sound adapter?
luvhuffer 10-15-2005, 06:06 PM Right click "my computer" and hit properties. Go to the hardware tab and click on "device manager". It should be under sound video and game controllers. Double click and go to driver tab. Or you can go to view in the device manager tool bar, and click on "resources by connection" Then expand interrupt request (IRQ) and double click on the card. You'll see the drivers tab in the sound card properties window. On the driver tab hit update driver. When it asks say have disk. Then use the browse button to navigate to where you have download and unzipped (if necessary) the driver. If the driver was downloaded from the makers web site and is an executable (.exe) file, then this may not be necessary. Just double click the file and let it install itself. Problems/questions? Don't hesitate to post back!
lance2 11-08-2005, 09:41 AM I accidentally uninstalled soundmax from my add and remove programs. How can I get this back. What is the best place to go to download it.

xxSorax 12-29-2005, 07:59 PM IM having the SAME problems... the exact same problems. Though, i'm using windows 2000. I have tried to reinstall soundmax but i always recieve this error message. Can someone help me? x.x
luvhuffer 12-29-2005, 09:37 PM IM having the SAME problems... the exact same problems.
Can you post some info on your system. Brand, model, mobo, revision#? soundmax version info? It's pointless to guess what you guys have, and my crystal ball is out for its midwinter polishing.
Also anyone who resolved this problem, can you post what you found/did and where/how? So anyone else linking to this thread can get some answers about what worked?
xxSorax 12-29-2005, 10:15 PM I'm very sorry x.x I'm not quite sure what version my Soundmax was. I use windows 2000 and my comp is a dell.. i don't know if that helps at all. Well my sister's friend uninstalled Soundmax by accident some kind of way... and i've tried reinstalling the drive but it wont install i keep getting this error message. I tried to follow your instructions up there but it wont work unless i actually have the drive downloaded but it wont install. I don't know why...
coolchingoo 01-16-2006, 11:26 PM ive tried multiple times to download the file, soundmax but then something comes up and it closes. then i came across this forum and ive been reading the helpful tips, but i go to the "Double click on your sound adapter and go to the driver tab. HIT UPDATE DRIVER" i didnt have update driver in the driver tab! plllllllllleease help!
luvhuffer 01-17-2006, 02:30 AM coolchingoo. What operating system do you have? What version of soundmax do you have? What do you mean by ive tried multiple times to download the file, soundmax but then something comes up and it closes
That sentence makes no sense. What comes up? How does it close. Are you able to download and unzip the file to your hard drive? Is there a yellow question mark next to sound video and game adapters in Device Manager? When you expand sound video and game adapters is there even an entry for soundmax?
logan520 03-05-2006, 11:18 PM i've made it to where update drivers in the IRQ or whatever but im still unable to find my sound card so i dont know what to do. I also by the way deleted my soundmax in the add/remove programs list
logan520 03-05-2006, 11:22 PM is there anyplace else it would be besides under sound, audio, game controller or whatever because there is not tab under any of them to update the driver
luvhuffer 03-06-2006, 02:38 AM Go here (http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html) and download Everest Home. When the page opens In the left search bar, click on Computer, then "summary". Under "multimedia" copy down EVERYTHING it says and post it here. On the left again click mulitmedia, and post what it says under "PCI/PnP Audio" in the device description in the right window
frostfire_0 06-25-2006, 12:51 AM Ok here's my situation...

Note that during the Everest report, Windows Audio did not generate any results. Also, in Device Manager, I have a "Multimedia Audio Controller" in yellow with a question mark beside it. I cannot update this driver because I don't have the CD.
Now it gets complicated, I downloaded SiS 7012 driver AND a SoundMAX Integrated Audio and both of them said "No Driver found, reboot and try again". Then I opened my tower, and on the motherboard, I found a chip with "SiS 963LuA" on it...which confused me even more.
Finally, the UDF also says I have an "ASUS Sound Codec"...so...I'm at a loss of what to even download.
Thank you very much.
All you need is the exact model of your motherboard then go to asus website to the support\downloads section and look up the model mobo you have and it will list all the correct software downloads for it.
you can use SIW to find the exact model of your mobo. look under "motherboard."
http://www3.sympatico.ca/gtopala/
WinDoWsMoNoPoLy 06-25-2006, 01:35 AM Yep, you uninstalled them. So reinstall them. Just do a google search for the drivers you need, you shall find.
frostfire_0 06-25-2006, 01:37 AM Thanks for fast replies...however, the problem is I dunno which drivers I'm missing ><
I tried the SiS7012 AND the SoundMAX and even SiS7018 and Intel ones...can I please a pointer or two? Stupid question I know but I've never encountered this before. Thanks!
The best way to get the correct driver is to do as I suggested. get the model of your mobo and go to asus website lookin the support downloads section for downloads for THAT board. ALL the correct drivers for THAT MODEL board will be availavble there. just download the soundmax drivers there, they will be the right ones.
frostfire_0 06-25-2006, 03:35 AM YES IT WORKED!! THanks A LOT! I cannot express I gratitude enough, THANK U!
luvhuffer 06-25-2006, 03:49 PM SiS 963LuA is the onboard graphics chip. Go to device manager and double click on sound video and game controller. Click on the entry for the sound device and go to the driver tab. Hit update driver then no don't look for it on line, next install from a specific location. Then Search for best drivers look in these locations. Hit browse then navigate to where you downloaded and unzipped the 7012 drivers. Follow the instructions. Or....
Go to the driver tab and uninstall the device. Reboot. When the new hardware wizard opens navigate to the place where you saved the unzipped files. By the way along with the mobo model, what OS are you using?
frostfire_0 06-25-2006, 06:51 PM Windows XP...but it's ok, thanks LuvHuffer I got my sound back :)
Lewiz 07-12-2006, 08:43 AM Hi, i have also had some problems due to accidently uninstalling soundmax control panel. After searching for months i have read through various forums and managed to re-install soundmax control panel from intels website.
However i have encountered another error which states "No soundmax audio present", "You cannot use soundmax control panel".
I know that the soundmax drivers i downloaded are correct because i got them from intels website and they are compatable with my D865PERL motherboard. PLEASE HELP!!!
If its any help Everest states that my audio adapter is:
Intel 82801EB ICH5 - AC'97 Audio Controller [A-2/A-3]
N3051M 07-12-2006, 10:10 AM goto device manager and uninstall your sound adapter. Reboot and when windows wants to find it, cancel it and install the one you downloaded from intel. Otherwise, you can try doing it in Safe Mode..
Lewiz 07-12-2006, 11:45 AM Thanks for the advice but for some reason, when i go into the device manager nothing shows. Ive clicked on various things like show hidden devices but still nothing shows. Im running Windows XP home edition if its any help.
N3051M 07-13-2006, 04:00 AM oo.. thats quite worrying.. have you tried to do this via safe mode or normal? Do you have admin priveliges as well?
There is another thread about a person having problems with their device manager but i cant recall that link right now.. you may have to search for it..
Lewiz 07-13-2006, 10:07 AM Ive had a look and found some soloutions for my problems with the device manager but none worked. I have full admin priveliges. However the device manager does work in safe mode.
N3051M 07-13-2006, 04:22 PM so did you manage to reinstall the sound drivers while you were in safe mode?
latinlivi03 08-03-2006, 03:11 AM "Go to start my computer right click on it and hit propertie. Go to hardware tab and hit device manager. Open sound video and game controllers. Double click on your sound adapter ..."
Ok, I did all of the things you said up until "double click on the sound adapter". I dont have a sound adapter in the sound video and game controllers file. When I opened up that file, I did see SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio in there with a small exclamation point with a yellow triangle around it. I went to that and clicked update driver but it told me I wasnt able to do that, so I clicked rollback driver and it told me I didnt have anything to roll back on. Now, SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio is gone completely and still wont let me install it. What should I do now?
-By the way, my computer is a Dell and has Windows XP...
N3051M 08-03-2006, 09:32 AM See if you can download the drivers missing from Dell's website.. and install them in safe mode. See how that goes :)
latinlivi03 08-03-2006, 11:58 PM OMG, I was so worried for a while. Thanks so much for the help. Such a simple solution. Figures I wouldnt think of it...
N3051M 08-07-2006, 11:07 AM Dont worry, its the simple stuff that even gets the best of us :)
Lewiz 08-20-2006, 08:27 AM Unfortunately i have still not managed to find a solution. After installing the correct drivers from intel i still get an error message stating "No soundmax audio present", "You cannot use soundmax control panel". Please can you tell me how to uninstall the sound adapter in device manager? If it will help
luvhuffer 08-20-2006, 10:00 AM OK Which Sound Max drivers did you install? Were they the AUD_ALL32_5.12.1.5240_PV2.EXE Ver:5.12.1.5240
Date:4/13/2005? And do you see any sound drivers listed in add/remove programs? From Intels web site;
Removal of Analog Devices SoundMAX Audio Driver
1. From the task bar, click on Start -> Settings -> Control Panel,
or for Windows XP click on Start -> My Computer -> System Tasks.
2. Double-click on the Add/Remove programs icon.
3. Double-click on SoundMAX Install.
4. If the installation media is present, a dialog will appear.
Select Remove and press Next.
5. Reboot the system to fully uninstall the drivers.
Installation or Update of Analog Devices SoundMAX 4.0
1. From the task bar, click on Start -> Run.
2. In the Run dialog box, type X:\path\setup, where X:\path is the
full path to the root of the installation media.
3. When upgrading or reinstalling, a dialog will appear. Select
Reinstall and press Next.
4. Click on the OK button or press the ENTER key.
5. Click on the Next and OK prompts as they appear.
"Hardware Installation" dialog box may appear in the case of
unsigned driver releases when the valid driver security catalog
file is not included in the install set. The dialog box is warning
that SoundMAX software has not passed Windows Logo testing.
Press "Continue Anyway" to install unsigned driver.
6. Reboot the system to complete the installation.
That's what Intel says. If it was me I'd first uninstall the program then before rebooting, go to the device manager and click on Sound Video Game Controllers. Double click on SoundMax AC97 audio and go to the driver tab. Click the uninstall button. Say yes to any are you sure? messages. Then reboot and follow the instructions above, or else just click on the executable icon and let them install automatically If it doesn't say SoundMAX AC97 audio in device manager, what does it say?
tkittie2016112 01-05-2007, 07:32 PM GO TO THE START MENU THEN CLICK RUN. IN THE BOX TYPE IN services.msc
A SCREEN WILL POP UP. THEN SCROLL DOWN TO window audio AND CLICK ON IT. RIGHT NOW IT IS OFF SO CLICK START TO TURN IT ON. THIS WILL SOLVE THE AUDIO PROBLEM 99 PERCENT OF THE TIME.
johanlieber 12-06-2007, 11:56 AM ok, here we go.
Start > all programs > accessories > system tools > system restore
chose the day before all that happened.
the good thing about this is that it doesn't matter what laptop model you're using, you can do it with anything.
that's it. this worked for me twice, once when i removed REALTEK a while ago, and now it was SOUNDMAX. TRY IT..
JackTee 12-30-2007, 02:54 PM PLEASE FOLLOW THESE INSTRCTIONS AS THEY'RE THE EASIEST AROUND ...
I ONLY DID THIS FORUM BECAUSE I WAS SO SICK THAT I HAD UNINSTALLED SOMETHING AND IT SEEMED IMPOSSIBLE TO GET BACK ... THIS REALLY WORKS AND IT TAKES BARELY ANY TIME AT ALL.
Right I was up till like 4 in the morning trying to fix it ,i followed loads of thread instuctions , even ones on this website , but like an hour ago i fixed it my own way :D (seriously if i hadn't of i would of kiled someone ,i was so frustrated i felt like crying) but i didnt ... Heres how I did it
I went on this website (copy and paste into your server) :
support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&cs
It says Choose by Service Tag ...
I didnt know what this was so I clicked How do I find my service tag?
... I followed their quick insturctions on how to find it,then I entered the details and clicked GO.
SUMMARY SO FAR: Go on website and enter service tag. Click go.
Then there's a list and I filled that in according to my particular computer... (example below)
Operating System : Windows XP
Driver Language: English
Category: Audio
Importance: All
then a couple of downloads should load on the page ...
( Analog Devices - Driver
Applies to:
ADI 198x Integrated Audio ) is what appeared for me at the top of the column ... I clicked download Now
I followed the soundmax download expecting at the end for it to say DIDNT WORK.REBOOT SYSTEM NOW ,or whatever it was saying , but it didnt , i lcicked next etc ,restarted computer and it worked :D
and problem solved
I'm over the moon
follow it and you shouldnt have problems
sebtting 02-26-2008, 05:54 PM You have the driver downloaded to the hard drive right? All done.
Dear Lufhuver:
I have the same problem as the person above, I have followed your instructions till I reached click "have disk" then i donīt know what file to open, I have a P5LD2 SE motherboard, with an intel 945 chipset support CD Rev. 213.08, my os is windows xp version 2002 sp 1, I installed soundmax driver from the disk and I get the icon with a red ring above saying "No soundmax audio present, you cannot use soundmax control panel" I have no sound at all, wonder if you could help. thanks
luvhuffer 02-26-2008, 08:20 PM It sounds like you are trying to install the control panel without the sound drivers installed. Go to add remove programs and uninstall any sound max programs you see. Reboot. Go here (http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=P5LD2%20SE). Go to audio and expand the tree. Scroll down to THE 2ND Windows XP (it's the 12th one down) and download the SoundMax AD1986A Audio Driver V5.10.01.4160 for Windows 2000/XP/2003. zip file. Unzip the file and click on set up. The driver should install automatically. I'm not sure if the control panel will install or if you need to click on the Asus setup to get the peripherals installed. I also don't know why it's 5 times larger than the first update. Sounds like they were having some issues. With the executable file you don't need to concern yourself with the manual driver installation steps you quoted everything should set up automatically.
Edit:You should probably upgrade to SP3 when it comes out if you are still running SP1
sebtting 02-27-2008, 04:53 PM Hello Again:
I followed your instructions, removed soundmax program, download the driver "Audio_32bit_V510014160" from the page as you told me, when I opened the folder, I clicked on asus setup logo, message came up: "does not support this operating system: WNT_5.1P", then I tried folder 2003 setup, installed ok but still did not work (red ring on top of soundmax icon), after I tried the other folder that came with it, 2K_XP, did the same as the 2003 one, did not work. I will keep on trying but if you could send me further suggestions I will appreciate. thanks for your time trying to help me, regards.
luvhuffer 02-27-2008, 07:54 PM That's not right. It should work. That's the set up for that board. So here's what I want you to do. Do the exact same thing. Uninstall any sound max programs, and delete the package you downloaded. Then go back to the ASUS site and this time download the 6th file down also for XP and also for your board. The only thing I can think of is your board might be an earlier revision thats not compatable with the newer file. The one you want to try this time is V5.10.1.4150.
BUT before you do any of this, go into your BIOS. On the main screen highlight Advanced settings and hit enter. On the Advanced settings window highlight Onboard Devices Configuration and hit enter. In the Onboard Devices Configuration window, the top entry should be HD Audio Controller. Make sure that is set to ENABLED. If it says enabled then just hit ctrl-alt-delete and let it reboot. If it's disabled and you have to change it to enabled, then when you're done hit F10 It will ask if you want to save changes. Say yes (y) and hit enter.
It will then reboot and you can go ahead and try to install the V5.10.1.4160 drivers from yesterday if the audio controller was disabled. If it was enabled then delete that folder and go ahead and download and try the older driver package.
Edit: Post back if you need help with the BIOS stuff or anything else.
sebtting 02-28-2008, 03:54 PM Dear Luvhuffer:
Firts of all I like to thank you for your time and for all the help and fast response to my emails. I got the sound max working perfectly today, there was a problem with the windows xp, that was not updated for this system, it updated itself to sp2 and the sound max work straight away.
Tech Spot has been the best help I ever had throught internet forums, thanks to you, if I have any further problem, I hope you can help me again.
best regards.
Sebastian

N3051M 03-14-2008, 08:01 PM the onboard graphics chip can be made from many different manufacturers.. and second its totaly different function to a onboard sound chip... which is what this thread is for...
any sort of graphics adaptor should be under the catagory "display adaptor" in device manager...
open a new thread if you still have some problems
