Sharman Networks, distributor of the popular P2P program Kazaa, is set to form an alliance called the Distributed Computing Industry Association (DCIA) which they hope will help legitimize the much-maligned peer-to-peer industry.
The association hopes to attract peer-to-peer network providers, software makers and Internet service providers as members... hopefully to avoid certain abuses (http://www.techspot.com/vb/showthread.php?&threadid=5975&highlight=RIAA) we have come to hear from RIAA lately, you can read more details (http://news.com.com/2100-1027_3-1022811.html?tag=lh) at news.com.
In a related note, CNN reports (http://www.cnn.com/2003/TECH/internet/07/01/download.music.ap/index.html) that music sharing has continued at a normal pace during the last few days even after RIAA's announcement of planning to suit individuals.
