Firefox, adaware updates, spyware doc updates don't work in Vista

Have Vista home premium now (yuk!) and firefox won't connect to internet (network is working fine in 2 locations). Also, updates for spyware doctor and ad Aware won't conect either. IE and windows updates work fine.

Any idea?

It's not a windows firewall problem. I tried disabling it and still no luck.

Operah doesn't connect to internet either.

If Internet Explorer works.
The I would suggest just to uninstall and reinstall the other apps, one at a time and test (Start with Firefox)

They must be getting blocked from some app on your computer, doing the above, should fix it.

That's upsetting!

1. Start-->Run--> Services.msc
2. Find the entry “Windows Firewall”-->Right Click it -> Properties
3. Press “Stop”
4. Change “Startup type” to “Disabled”
5. Press OK and exit.

Try Firefox Again

If still the same

Run msconfig and disable all startups. Here's the HowTo on that in Vista:http://www.netsquirrel.com/msconfig/msconfig_vista.html

Restart Try Firefox Again

Still the same?
