@reverend reefer isnt c640 an old model? if youre not having much luck 'jumping' maybe you could build a simple eeprom reader & get a readout- im sure ive seen easy to make eeprom readers somewhere on net. also i thought the gen/ soft for old ones such as c640 was available on a link on this forum somewhere.

absolutely not, the Latitude has a 595b Service Tag and there is no link to a gen.
Shorting procedure works fine on this model.

sorry my bad i was maybe thinking of c610 - anyway if c640 got eeprom then it should be very easy to read out the contents & sort it out that way- ive never liked the shorting method i prefer gen or readout

Turn on

Did it work?
If yes, turn off and re-insert the battery, and then continue to search for the HDD password !!
Congratulations kimsland!

I did as per your instructions and was able to power up the laptop upto the bios setup. I restored the original service tag using dst-cd and was able to reset the admin/system password.

About the hdd password, I have nowhere to go except to you kimsland. I have searched everywhere, but the only clue I could get was from something you had posted a few years back. I would appreciate very much if you could help me out.

Thanks in advance.

I have been on tech forums for about 15years
but not here at TechSpot for that long

The best advice would be to replace the HardDrive
You could try one of these posts for HDD password (not CMOS)

I like this one:

I used CLRCMOS a lot, a long time ago
It will clear your CMOS settings (back to defaults) and on some older computers (being PCs usually) it will remove the CMOS password.
It doesn't work on Dell Laptops though (in removing the Password that is)
I just threw it in basically because I liked this small Dos utility

Hi guys!

I DID IT!! I was able to use the masterpw.exe file on the dst-cd to get two hdd passwords, one for the 595B system and another for the D35B.

I wanna thank you guys, especially Julio, Obi and Kimsland for all the effort you've dedicated on these forums. I've surely learnt a lot and keep it up.

Dell latitude D430 password request...

I have been reading this forums to see if I can remove the password for my friend's latitude D430 notebook; I tried the DSTCD.iso, svctag.exe, and was reading the paper clip tutorial but I don't know how to disassemble this one, so I can't get to the chip.
I already called Dell and they couldn't give me the password because of the ownership transfer was not done.

[COLOR="Red"]would somebody please help me with the password?
Service Tag: GPC6YF1-595b

Thank you
