Latitude D630

Hello everyone.
First let me say that this is great! All these people putting out information like this, its incredibly helpful for a newbie like myself.

Ok so here is my problem. I have this latitude D630 that is locked. I have been through quite a few post and threads on this sight ( I have been reading for 7 hours fact) and have come to this conclusion. The clip process will not work, the software did not work( maybe because this computer is a later model?), I am in the process of contacting dell but the tell me it will take a month due to ownership issues. This is a christmas present so if possible I could use it quicker than that. The battery process will not work.

Basically I am saying that I NEED SOMEONES HELP PLEASE!!!

If there are any ideas out there please let me know your assistance would be much appreciated.
Oh the service tag is 66gf2d1-595b

^ Newbie here too...as you can tell... perhaps I should add a comment to the quote above? would help...

Well the D630 is almost the same as my D530, seems the only exception being the screen size, so welcome to my nightmare!

Not much luck with it yet, seems not many people know about the D530 eeprom chip unlike the other models out there. I think I reached page 14 in one of my many gooogle searches.....

Tell us more. What is the problem? What do you consider a "reset"? What BIOS is installed?
Do you have a password or access problem?

the computer its self will not boot up from any drive without the admin or primary password.

If you can boot from anything, use DST software, if not use shorting procedure
Procedure works fine on Latitude D400.

Next I am going to remove the battery for a few hours to see if that helps.\

Meanwhile, I am trying to find a password regenerator for this model. I have had no luck so far. Does anyone know of such a prorgram or a way to do it.

Thanks for your help.

This is the txt file I had saved about that model (Omnibook 6100\6200)
It's unlikely that any will work, but I'd try them, just in case

has to be 8 digits.
start notebook and press F2 to try to enter into BIOS setup.
type in password

There are perhaps 800 postings on TechSpot on this issue. Search our archives.

Dell's action protects all of us.

One thing you can do is go to the Dell website and register yourself as the new owner, then wait 60-70 days, then send it to Dell for a fix... for a price.

There are people on this forum who claim to be able to fix the issue... and we know a number of people who have tried to get a fix through them or using techniques they recommend. None of the people I know were successful. But some people on this forum claim to be satisfied.

As far as I know, there is only one Dell model that nobody can fix. The rest require work and research. But based on hourly rated, it isn't worth it. It is cheaper to buy a new motherboard for that model...

Search the archives and old postings... there is a great deal of data available on TechSpot.
