Your best bet is to call HP and get the backdoor password from them.

You will need:
Product number:
Serial number: TW21300550

You can also check your Warranty status here: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport...dTypeId=321957

Basically I'm wanting to know if this is a free service? (But I don't own a Hp to confirm this). Please let me know the outcome

I am going to an auction tomorrow and am looking at buying a HP NC8230, when i booted it up it had a bios password, can you remove that by moving bios reset jumpers or taking out battery

also, is the boot-up password reset if a different hard drive is put in?

thanks so much!

Exp. service code: 36536479552

Please help me, somebody.

After shorting the 24C02 as instructed by Obi, I was able to access the bios setup and change the boot sequence to start with cd-rom so that I could run dst-cd. The first problem I came across was the hdd password, but I jacked out the hdd and was on the way to full recovery when I decided to first re-assemble the laptop.

I disconnected everything and then started re-assembling, testing for boot/power functionality after every major component is connected. E.g. after connecting the palm rest, I inserted the power cord and pressed the power button. If the laptop booted to 'no bootable media present', i turn it off, pull out the power cord and connect something else.

This went on smoothly, upto when I connected the keyboard. Everything stopped working. When I pressed the power button, the numerous lights just blinked once then off except the hdd and power-on lights.

I have tried repeating the process several times but to no avail.

Am almost going mad. Please any suggestions or have I blown the mobo.

Not exactly for this thread!

Remove all power (Adaptor and the big main battery)
Hold down the ON switch for 30 secs (dispersing all internal voltage)
Let go of the ON switch
Put the power adaptor back in (only)
Turn on

Did it work?
If yes, turn off and re-insert the battery, and then continue to search for the HDD password !!

Needs bios password for a Toshiba Satellite A15-S1292. I don't think there's any codes, like dell code "d595" etc.. Its just ask for password when turned on.

Thank in adavance.

Greetings everyone, I have come here in search of the magical guru who can help me unlock my new (to me) Dell Inspiron 640m. Since I got it at a pawn shop I was wary of calling dell in case it was ever stolen, but when I finally gave-in and called they informed me that since the warranty is up I have to pay to even speak to tech support, and even then, it's some kind of business support with limited hours.

I tore her apart to try the paperclip method, but now I read that the new 25 series IC is resistant (and my poor eyesight couldn't identify the right chip anyway, lol) If anyone can please assist me, I will appreciate it forever.

Thanks in advance!

Hi, kimsland: what a clever guru you are. I'm impressed how can you waste a minute of your life answering that way.
I'm not doing anything illegal: the laptop belongs to my family, HP ask for a proof of purchase, which we don't have, and yes, ask for money also, 40 €. I'm asking here for help, and only got your crappy answer.
And here is your feedback: in less than 12 hours, paying only 11€, I got the unlock key, and I'm already working with the laptop.
Bye, guys.

At least I spent time on your issue and gave you an answer
What other replies have you had again? Oh yeah None!

As for your 11€, incredible, by the way I have read that Hp provide users with Master keys, I'll have to re-confirm with them, how much it is, and what users need to do exactly

Edit:

I doubt what somebody here will help you in your commercial relations with your customer. Let him go to dell to remove password without hardware interventions

Thats why I am here they have tried going through Dell and of course they were not helpfull, they paid Dell around fifty dollars and the problem was not fix and that is why they brought it to me. As I have stated before we have tried everything I just don't want to waste my time to call Dell again to get the same answer. So hopefully I will get some help through here.

I understand, you prefer to waste time of other members.
You do not explained why Dell unable to fix trouble on well known laptop. You do not post service tag, may be it stolen so you try to hide all tracks and details.

I am sorry if I cam off as a theif but infact I do run a computer store and will got to the extreme for my customers if they ask if you want the service tag here it is
10L6191 The reason for me being on here is that I do not know why Dell could not fix the problem or maybe they did and the owner made the same mistake but I do know I do not want to charge them fo the samething they have already done themselves if that makes any sense. I do apoligize if I came off wrong I am not here to waste anytime but to solve a matter that I have.
Thank You Kristina

I can't see any reason why Dell unable to fix that problem. Sound suspicious for me.
I suppose he ask dell about password and dell told to him about finished warranty and he have to pay money to extend warranty. Then customer got angry and decide to find solution for free.

I don't really know what happened I just know what I was asked to do and so now I am tring to do it trust me it will not be free but I don't want to have to pay Dell and find out that what they did won't work and have to charge double for the solution I would have no problem going through Dell myself if the could prove to me that their solution will fix the problem before I give out credit card information. I am not very Dell friendly if you know what I mean. My shop is full of Dells every day and to be frank their customer service sucks!
