It is not required to know who the tiny internal original electronic parts of a proprietary manufactured laptop are. All the drivers are supplied by the laptop manufacture in question (being HP in this case)

If the sound drivers do not exist on the HP support page for your given laptop, then I would say contact them h e r e and ask for their whereabouts. As long as HP support the operating system for that particular laptop, they then must also carry the drivers, although not a legal requirement, this is still classed as basic support, of which HP adhere to.

In some cases though it may be that the drivers are found through Windows itself, and in this case a Windows Update (using Internet Explorer) would be required (under custom updates)

Pretty sure that laptop is supported by HP on XP as well, have a look here:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport...riesId=3632100
Therefore again, the info above (Try HP and try Windows Update - minimum SP2) will work

Actually go through all those threads (there's 4 of them)
http://www13.itrc.hp.com/service/jam...10647+28353475

Also do not reply to yourself (ever) when your post is still the last post in the thread just use EDIT to add to your post (if you need to)

Edit:
I placed some text in Bold above, as you seem to have edited your previous post, which is not what I meant (your post is presently not the last post in the thread)
Please contact HP directly here: http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic100655.html
As advised in Post#2

I am working with them now. They suggested I try other means first. So that is what I am doing.

There are no "other means"
Contact them back and state they must know where they are, as they support XP and Vista for that model
