Blue Screen while playing Fallout 3

Hi, i am having issues with blue screens while playing Fallout 3, i have yet to get one in another game but have had many issues latley with games not running properly (Crashing to desktop, sometimes blue screens). Most of the time it would only crash when running in fullscreen mode, windowed seemed to be fine.

Here is some system log info:

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck.
The bugcheck was: 0x1000008e (0xc000001d, 0xe37f78df, 0x9b48e88c, 0x00000000).
A dump was saved in: C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini031009-05.dmp.

System Specs:

EDIT: Lol might help if i told you, Windows XP SP2
Athlon 3000+ XP
Gigabyte GA7NNXP Board (Latest F20 BIOS)
ATI Radeon X1650 512mb
2gb DDR1 PC3200 Ram (2x 512mb, 1x 1gb) the 512's are Dual Channelled automatically.
Creative Audigy 2 Ex Platinum
LG DVDRW
5x 80mm Fans
2x 300gb IDE Drives (Raided)
2x 80gb SATA Drives (Base)
Everything is default, no overclocking.

All temperatures are well within safe levels. Since i thought it may be Gfx driver related i am using:

Driver Packaging Version 8.582-090203a-075974C-ATI
Catalyst™ Version 09.2
Provider ATI Technologies Inc.
2D Driver Version 6.14.10.6912
2D Driver File Path System/CurrentControlSet/Control/Video/{3310C665-AF2A-4803-BBA4-8D8752A10240}/0000
Direct3D Version 6.14.10.0643
OpenGL Version 6.14.10.8494
Catalyst™ Control Center Version 2009.0203.2228.40314
DirectX 9.0c (Latest version)

Minidumps attached.

I have also run Memtest for a full 14 hour period with 0 errors.

Since changing a BIOS setitng no games crash now in fullscreen or windowed mode except fallout. Dont know why.

I really hope you can help as this is driving me mad now. If you need any further info pls let me know.

EDIT: I notice i posted this in the wrong section, sory if a mod could move it to the BSOD section i would appreciate it

Neonic please do this

Uninstall your AVG Antivirus
Then run the removal tool
Here is the 32Bit version (most users): http://www.avg.com/filedir/util/avg_...avgremover.exe
Here is the 64Bit version: http://www.avg.com/filedir/util/avg_...removerx64.exe

Install Avira free AntiVirus

Run a full scan

Problem solved

AVG8 has these network drivers (among other DLLs all over the place!) That just consistently cause errors

By the way, after removing AVG8 (and running the removal tool) run CCleaner

Please do this

Download Combofix
Lots of info on its use h e r e
Direct download h e r e

Locate the downloaded Combofix. Double click on it to run, answering any prompts along the way
Note: during Combofix scan (lasting up to 10mins) your Desktop and clock may reset (all normal)
ComboFix will also restart your computer (eventually) and then (eventually) create a log

Save this log file to be attached to a new reply

Wow that was worth it

Please check your Program Files (My Computer->C Drive->program files) for this folder:
c:\program files\Новый Диск
Pretty sure that strange folder can go

AVG8 seems to be installed still, please run the removal tool again

You have "Azureus" installed (file sharing program)
This is highly likely where the infections have come from
You are advised to uninstall this (for your security)

After doing the above, please run Combofix again (in Normal mode) also Combofix automatically checks for updates, please allow this to happen (if prompted for new version)

Azureus infected? Dont think so m8 its a very highly used app and i have been runnign it for about 6 years with no issues.

That odd path is a game called Dark Sector, its russian so np there. Guessing it cannot display russian characters.

Dont know why AVG hasnt been removed the tool said completed successfully, i will run again.

FYI i dont know why you think there is an infection, this problem only occurs on 1 game and aside from that a daily scan with malware/spyware tools and anti virus has not shown an infection since my last format over 2 months ago.

This appears to me to be either a hdware or driver issue, i am however starting to wonder if this game is simply incompatible with my system

Actually here's another AVG removal tool:
Download the archive avg8.zip http://support.kaspersky.com/downloa...s2009/avg8.zip
unpack all files from the archive avg8.zip into one folder
run the file KLeaner.exe
wait until the utility finishes its work
restart your PC

I have seen this issue before where the AVG removal tool doesn't work (crazy I know) you have to:
Uninstall AVG (done already)
Run the AVG removal tool (you have now done this twice!)
And the run the AVG removal tool from Kaspersky (ironically)
And then it's gone

Anyway, please do that. I don't think it has a log file or anything though. But we are trying to remove the AVG hidden folder on C drive, which happens to be the AVG quarantine folder, so it's pretty important to get rid of it (ie just Viruses that have been zipped up and the extension removed)

Ok well i just ran the program and all traces of AVG are now gone, although it has not made any difference still getting blue screens.

Also, could you move this post into the BSOD section as it was supposed to be there but i posted it here by mistake.

EDIT holy crap that was fast XD thanks

None of these files sharing programs are infected. Otherwise they'd be removed

I cannot support a member with a file sharing program still installed, basically there's no use. I and all other support members have written so much about this on user's threads (always going along with what I recommended) I've now grown tired at saying the same thing, and explaining in detail why.

Well personally i think you have 100% missed the point here, you seem to be under the assumption i have a virus, which is quite clearly not the issue.

All i wanted was for someone to help me analyse the minidump file not give me pointless advice about uninstalling applications that don't have anything to do with my crash.

I went along with your advice about AVG as i have had experience with AVG causing issues, but in 10 years of technical support and 5 years of programming i have NEVER found any issues with file sharing aside from morons downloading things they shouldn't.

If anyone else can help i would greatly appreciate it

Well thanks for "going along" with me "missing the point" and all
But at least we removed most of the malware that you definitely had (and likely still have more)

Anyway, you have prompted me to create a guide for anyone being supported by malware removal to number 1 remove any file-sharing programs (especially if they ignorantly do not realize why, and want to question my recommendations (geez I'd be there all day explaining why I know, certainly seems a pointless waste)

Actually I might even add it to the 8-step guide as a mandatory requirement, to stop all the fuss.

As for your, highly likely still infected, system. Yes if anyone wants to reply with Windows help and fixes then go for it, and good luck.

What malware? There was NO malware on my system, unless you count AVG as malware.

List me the malware files we so say removed

If you were referring to c:\program files\Новый Диск as i stated further up it is a Russian game but you do not have the russian language files installed hence it appears like that to you.

I'm aware of that, else I would have replied again above

Firewall allowed (ie not protected from anything) and remains

"%windir%\\system32\\sessmgr.exe"=
"c:\\Program Files\\Vuze\\Azureus.exe"=
I cannot comment on the other most important logs, ie:
Malwarebytes
Superantispyware
HijackThis -> being the most important

Because I have not seen them

This is the guide I refer to: UPDATED 8-step Viruses/Spyware/Malware Preliminary Removal Instructions

Which certainly is your wisest first option (but obviously free of file-sharing programs - I'm yet to write in).

qmgr0.dat and qmgr1.dat are files that are created/used by BITS
(Background Intelligent Transfer service), and they are constantly
in use by the BITS service.

BITS transfers files using leftover bandwidth. For example, if you are currently using 60 percent of your bandwidth, BITS will only use the remaining 40 percent. BITS also maintains file transfers when a network disconnection occurs, or a computer needs to be restarted: When the network connection is re-established, BITS will continue where it left off.

Note: BITS version 1.0 is included with Windows XP and supports only downloads. BITS version 1.5 is included with Windows Server 2003 and supports both downloads and uploads. Version 1.5 will be available as a redistributable for Windows 2000 and Windows XP following the release of Windows Server 2003. Uploads require Internet Information Services (IIS) server with the BITS server extension installed.

The BITS system is used by EVE Online to manage bakground downloading while EVE is closed (Mainly for patches)

So that is a false detection

Yes thankfully by me I have removed the Malware ones and replaced them with the Windows authentic ones

Anyway, I'm not defending myself any longer. A support member should not need to prove Why, they can state that it is recommended because... But that's it.

Edit

I always watch for edits

Problem solved, turns out i had some remnants of Omega Drivers left on the system. After running driver cleaner again in safe mode they were removed (Last time i forgot and ran it in normal mode)

Reinstalled omegas & bingo, no crashes.

FYI Crashes were present right up to 5 mins ago when i reinstalled the omega drivers, so had nothign whatsoever to do with AVG or any form of Malware. Not to mention filesharing.
