Apple convinces Microsoft to change laptop ads

In a follow up to last week’s story, it appears there have been some new developments in the scuffle between Microsoft and Apple over the former’s laptop hunter campaign. If you recall, Apple contacted Microsoft and put some pressure on them to pull their ads or at least change them, frustrated over the use of outdated pricing. Initially defiant, Redmond said they had no intention of ceasing them. According to AdAge, however, who has been watching Microsoft\'s laptop campaign, at least one advertisement has been changed.

Why doesn't M$ just sue the crap out of Apple for the "I'm a PC" slander"?

Apple can't take it to court, if they don't show specific prices, and just claim PCs are cheaper... That's fact, not some made up slander. This whole thing started because Apple dropped their inflated prices a whopping $100... Whoopee, the advertised prices in the original MS add were still far over the $1000 target price they specified, even with the little $100 drop.

Apple was just whining because they can't have their way. And, I agree with you captain, if anyone had a legal beef, I'd say the Mac vs. PC campaign was much more slanderous in how it falsely inflated Windows Vista issues, while conveniently omitting their own issues.

I'm guessing Macs are PCs again...oh wait they wont change there ads but keep spouting nonsense to mislead the masses. At least Microsofts ads were more truthful.

Apple certainly is guilty of bold faced hypocrisy..!! Faced with the daunting task of of selling their own OS, (with which not that many are familiar), they cave, write a bootloader, sell more computers now that Windows can be used, then continue to trash Windows in their advertising. That's enough BS to make your head explode! Perhaps that's what they're counting on!

No wonder corporations have been trying to take over the government... look wtf they are doing now.

Its not that I want corporations ruling the world, but if they fall the people will suffer first.

I found this interesting, along with the previous article here on TS. I feel sorry for the people saying how that call from apple probably didnt happen and the M$ rep laughing during the interview about it.

Kind of like "who's STILL laughing now." kind of thing.

The phone call happened, or it didn't happen. Ya know, who cares. We're having fun with it, that's all that really matters. It's been keeping us of the streets, and away from porn sites.
Besides, couldn't Apple really use a bit of "constructive criticism"?

CC you always crack me up, you always sound like a overly self indulged hermit who waits for the first opportunity to jump on a topic of contradictive irony.

You're right, lets have fun with it. I dont own any apple products, believe it or not, the main reason is that they charge 100 dollars just to get anything in black, and most things dont. I think I'm fairly intelligent and anyone who is should be able to jump from os to os w/o having too much trouble.

Ah, sadly gone are the days of the Model "T" Ford, the only color you could get was black. And, @No extra charge. Isn't there one of the Ford children still around that could give Steve Jobs the boot, and grace us with a return to conventional values?

It is okay for Apple to rip on Microsoft Vista problems, but wants to whine about the hunter ads? Quit crying Mac! Paybacks are hell, aren't they? Apple, spend your time on making iphones available for ALL.

I have just seen a 2007 Shelby Mustang at a car show with a certificate signed by Carrol Shelby and Edsel Ford II . He should be able to take care of things

What Apple *could* be upset about is stuff like Microsoft showing a $1200 13" Macbook and then cutting to a $2000 price tag... There are a number of examples of misleading details in these ads.. But hey, that's what every company does.

In a sense, it is false advertising but Apple is hardly a saint itself. At the end of the day though, the bottom line is you can get a PC laptop for well below $1000 and Apple has nothing in that price range. That is a fact that is undeniable, although the quality, features, size and style of said laptops will always be debated...

Yeah well, your OS sucks way more worser than my OS sucks.....!

Besides, who designed that bouncing ball icon BS on the Macs? The first consulting firm that springs to mind is "Fischer Price".

I'm really a guest but I'm posting under captaincranky's avatar and alias, so he'll get blamed for this outburst...!
