XP shuts down and restarts

After a clean reinstall of xp home my pc has started shuting down mid game or on sites like myspac or facebook, but it stays on if im just browsing the net. I have had a few blue screen errors and have followed the instructions as best my ability to no avail. Most often than not ther is no blu screen error, it just reboots. I have checked the evnt logs and found several entries from event 1000-1004. all my drivers are updated and my windows updates are current. my pc specs are in my profile and im currently using norton 360. Im going nuts can any 1 help.
I hope ive posted this in the correct place.

rowey, the mods may move this to the BSOD forum. Anyway, in your next post attach your five most recent minidumps.

How to find your Minidump Files:

My Computer > C Drive > Windows Folder > Minidump Folder > Minidump Files.

It is these files that we need (not the folder). Attach to your next post the five most recent dumps. Notice the Manage Attachments button at the bottom when you go to post the next time. You can Zip up to five files per Zip. Please do us a favor and don’t Zip each one individually.

All five errors are 0x8E and these are almost always caused by hardware and are particularly a strong indicator of corrupted memory. However, sometimes they can be caused by faulty drivers.

Four of your dumps cited XP drivers and OS drivers are usually too general to be of much help.

The remaining dump was definitive in that the Symantec Autoprotect driver srtsp.sys was prevented from loading by another Symantec Internet Security driver navex15.sys.

* We have seen a great many people who come here for help have issues with Symantec (though not recently in my experience).

* First see if updating your Symantec resolves your conflicts.

I ran my norton update and sanned my pc inclueding rigistry clean up which only found 1 problem that refered to an invalid application. I then played a game on my pc to see if the issue was corrected but the screen has jus now froze. The only way out qwas to reboot.
To Superty 12, i went to that link but I do not understand such things.

In summary,(1) I can browse the net with no issues, however if I go to sites like myspace or facebook i get either Blue screen error or it just reboots.
(2) When I play games it will randomly just freeze.

Be very careful with anything dealing with the registry. Keep in mind it can still be your Norton because this will engage while you are on the 'net. Do you get issues with offline games or is this freezing/Bsods with online games?

Post your most recent minidumps since last time.

One of the suggestions we have given to people is to completely uninstall Norton and see if that brings stability. Keep in mind that after you uninstall it you then have to use their special tool to make sure Symantec/Norton is completely gone. They had to do this because their software is notorious for leaving remnants of itself behind.

So, go to Norton's website, find the Removal Tool for your version. Log off from the internet and uninstall this software. Then use the tool. We've lost count the number of people whose issues disappeared once they did this.

Play some games and see if you have any more BSODs.

Let us know how it went. make sure before you go back online that you reinstall to keep yourself protected. If you so wish we can direct you to better security measures that take up less resources and some of them are free.

Ok I uninstalled norton as requested and played the same game and then a different 1, it froze again within 2 mins each time giving me a send error report but I was unable to close the program and had to reboot. a mini dump file was not generated for either error.

Route66, do you think we might be able to find additional information if there is a corresponding Error in the Event Viewer? I don't do the minidumps and have found the the two working together can sometimes help pinpoint the problem.

Quote:
I have checked the evnt logs and found several entries from event 1000-1004.
If you follow the instruction below, give us all the information for those Errors- try to keep the Errors to the times of the freeze/restart:

Start> Run> type in eventvwr

Do this on each the System and the Applications logs:
[1]. Click to open the log>
[2]. Look for the Error>
[3] .Right click on the Error> Properties>
[4]. Click on Copy button, top right, below the down arrow >
[5]. Paste here (Ctrl V)
[6].NOTES
  • You can ignore Warnings and Information Events.
  • If you have a recurring Error with same ID#, same Source and same Description, only one copy is needed.
  • You don't need to include the lines of code in the box below the Description, if any.
  • Please do not copy the entire Event log.

Errors are time coded. Check the computer clock on freeze.

Then we can use the minidups and the Errors and hopefully find the cause and resolution.

rowey, I went to check your system specs to see how much RAM you had. But all you have in is DIMM1- that is a slot, not how much RAM- what is the amount you have?

If you use on Facebook and MySpace is heavy, you may be using all the available RAM, so the system crashes. Then, when it reboots, it releases available memory- until the next time.

Okay Route 66?

rowey, the first thing you need to do is get an antivirus program on the system:

Both of the following programs are free and known to be good:
Avira Free
Avast Home

Please reboot the system after the installation is complete.

Once the programs is installed, you should check for updates immediately and then run a full system scan. This will help to make sure the program is configured and working properly and alert you to any viruses that might be on the system as a result of not having a functional AV.

Between the information you gave Route66 and what comes out of the Event Viewer, maybe we can help to find the cause and resolve the problem. But if the system runs with no protection, you're going to have a whole new problem to deal with!
