begin2search - how does it return? solution?
I'm having difficulty removing the begin2search program/toolbar.
Here's what I've done so far: I ran both adaware and spybot and removed all spyware and references to begin2search and then I used hijack this to remove the suspicious looking entries. I then restarted my computer only to find that begin2search is still lurking somewhere because the words 'google', 'music' etc are still linked to begin2search sites. The search function is no longer redirected to begin2search though (as spybot blocked begin2search from changing it) Here's my hijack this log: Logfile of HijackThis v1.97.7 Scan saved at 3:58:30 PM, on 24/11/2004 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180) Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccProxy.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSetMgr.exe C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\Norton AntiVirus\navapsvc.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\nvsvc32.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\SNDSrvc.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\CCPD-LC\symlcsvc.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccEvtMgr.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\Security Center\SymWSC.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\ps2.exe C:\Program Files\Telstra\Cable Login\bpcable.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\RUNDLL32.EXE C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccApp.exe C:\Program Files\Telstra\Toolbar\bpumTray.exe C:\Program Files\ScanSoft\OmniPageSE\opware32.exe C:\Program Files\IMT Labs Messenger Plugin\Cloud.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\msnmsgr.exe C:\Program Files\Spybot - Dunno if you've already solved this, but you might want to check your Hosts file:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\Hosts There should only be the default entry in there: 127.0.0.1 localhost When windows does a DNS lookup, it first consults this file to see if the host name/IP address mapping is in there. Some malware will create entries in there, pointing things like google and yahoo at their own servers. If you see other entries in there, especially ones that say google, you should delete them. |
