i need some help. i have had the sims 2 for some time and i had it installed for a while. but then my computer crashed and all our memory was erased. im now trying to instal the sims 2 again. i have no problems with disk 1. it goes to 23% then it tells me to put in disk 2. i do and then it keeps going up to 44% then a message comes up saying "A problem occured when trying to transfer the file TSdata/res/sound/voice6.package from the media. do you want to retry to copy the file or cancel the installation?" When i press retry, it goes up 1% then the message comes up again. the first disk is more scratched then the second and its not even that scratched. Ive been to lots of websites over the past day and ive tryed everything but nothing has worked. i tryed disableing the anti virus, changeing the installationsheild, manully installing it and cleaning the disk but nothing has worked. it always gives me the mesage when it gets to 44% and on disk 2. i dont know what to do. Can anyone help me?

I also received this error and with some experimenting, this worked for me:

after i cancelled the failed install i did the following:
1. i manually copied the control1.dat file to the c drive, in the expected location (EA Games/The Sims 2/TSData/Control/contro1.dat)
2. i right clicked on this copy and selected "properties" and check "read-only" and then clicked "apply"
3. I started the install process from the beginning and it worked - it seemed to skip right over the control1.dat file and the rest of the install was successful.

I have been having the same problem as most of you for weeks..

After doing the following, I now have a playable install

1. make images of your cds (use nero, clone cd, alcohol)
2. install Virtual Clone Drive (http://www.slysoft.com/en/virtual-clonedrive.html)
3. goto DEVICE MANAGER and DISABLE your real cd/dvd drives (Not the SCSI as thats the image drive)
4. now mount the SIMS 2 CD 1 image.
5. start the installation
6. when disc 2 is asked for, just right-click the virtual drive and click VIRTUAL CLONE DRIVE and then click MOUNT to choose the next image (ie CD 2)

This worked for me, let me know if it works for you

I figured that since my installation was hanging when it was trying to copy sims11.package, and the same is in the compressed.zip folder, unpacking and repackaging (re-zip)the whole thing works.

Unfortunaltey, I am unable to get the sims11.package for the main sims2 file from anywhere, SOMEONE please post it.

Hi I am wondering how to solve a problem. I have a 200GB harddrive with a 6 GB C drive partition and the rest is D drive. I use C: for windows XP and drivers and D: for everything else (currently about 120 GB of stuff).
My problem is that while the game will install ok (I have all EP's as well) it's the sheer amount of crap it wants to install to drive C: (I installed the game to D.
I have moved my virtual mem to D: and still can't free up enough space on C:

Is there some way to have the C:/my documents/ea games/sims 2 dir on D:?

Because I am not backing up, restoring, reinstalling 120GB of stuff just to repartition my harddrive. Nor am I replacing and ghosting a 200 GB HD.

Please! If there is any way to do this, please tell me. I lost the 1st CD of the sims 2 and i can't find it. i have tried every no cd crack there is and they are all viruses. please help asap!

I was experiencing a problem with installing Sims 2: Nightlife. Sims 2 and University both installed properly and ran well. For some reason, while installing nightlife, i would insert disc 2/2 and at 99% through the installation process it would stop and have an error in retrieving "tsdata/control/control1.dat"

That day i had also bought Open For Business, so i installed it and gave up on Nightlife for the night. I woke up tried what LuborK said by washing off the disc with warm soapy water, even though the disc looked clean. I then tried installing it again and it completed the installation this time.

I'm not sure if it worked because i had installed Open For Business, or because i washed off the cd.

Anyway, trying to install Nightlife 10 times in one night was very frustrating, but it installed without error in the morning thankfully.

Okay so I have had no problems like this one, and this is a doooosy.. I download the new Seasons patch and have had nothing but problems since. I went on the BBS and they told me to get rid of the patch to uninstall my last EP (Seasons) and then reinstall it. So I did.. Well I get about 61% done and I get this message:

A problem has occured when trying to transfer the file 'E\TSBIN\Sims2 EP5.exe.' from the media

So I tryed to manually install it like the forum said.. I get pretty much the same message: 'C\Game Disk\Disk 1\TSBIN\Sims2 EP5.exe. from the media.

I am really confused what happened. I have never had this happen before.. Can anyone help me out on what to do.. I checked my disk it has no scratches or breaks in it..

I even tried to uninstall the game and all ep's and sp's and all install fine except seasons...

I just wanted to add.. When I go into my C drive/Program Files/EA Games/ The Sims 2 Seasons... The only file in there is the TSBin.. The one that I am having an issue with...

All the other files have everything in them...

Does that mean anything?

HElp my sims2 wont install when i put the disk in everything is going grand! untill after the register later part it says..''A problem occured when trying to transfer the file'TSData/sims3D/sims08.package' and then it says would you like to retry or cancel unstallation! and i clicked retry and it pops up again after every 2% so i kept on clicking retry and about 30 something % it just stoped then i clicked cancel and tried install it again but the same thing hapens! Whats wrong? i spent money on this gaem and its not working can you please help me?? PLEASE!

Try cleaning the disk. There might be some dirt, grease, fingerprint or something that is interfering with the file copying.

I am trying to download sims 2 and it stops at 17% and something like there is a problem and it stops at Tsdata/res/sound/voice5.Package

I am trying to instal sims2 on my computer and it keeps stopping at 48%. the message says: "tsdata/res/sims3d/objects09 package" I have read and tried and all do not aply. i have recommended and exceed most. i have no idea what the problem is.. the game was working fine before i uninstalled it. now all the sudden it doesnt want to reinstall! please help me

Seriously. Its rude.

Try copy the whole CD to the desktop under a new folder, and check if your CD has any scratches or whatever on it.
Try a different CD/DVD drive.. try it on another pc to confirm that its a working cd.. that should start you off.

it's better than the 3 comps that had more than what they need to run the games and more but could only get to 12 percent

i have the same prolem.
it stops at 13%.
i know it isent the cd cause it works perfectly on my moms computer.
i had installed it once.
after that i formated the computer.
after that it wont work any more =(
