Dead mobo perhaps? help needed with bios code...

well the moo is an asus p4s800.. when it starts up all i get is a long beep(around 7 sec) and thats it... no video or anything... anyone got some ideas on what could be fux0red?

its a p4 2.4, geforce 4 TI, 256mb ddr, onboard everything else... any help greatly appreciated :p
 
Did you check the sticky Read: Beep code list at the top of this forum?

Sounds like a memory problem.
Did you just build this or what? Check every single connector and reseat cards and memory-stick(s).
Some more info is required.
 
yeah..

read the sticky, no help there... couldnt find any sites with bios codes for one long beep only... checked all seating arrangements, pulled it all out, pluged it back in... *sigh*

its a friends puter, its had problems ever since we tried upgrading it... *shakes fist* so i dunno... the only original part is the case... everything else seems to die in it... tis annoying :p
 
Any way to test the individual items in another PC to see if they are working in the first place?
Start from the bottom up.
Check that CPU is fully in, with cooler properly mounted, using thermal paste. Does its fan spin?
Does the powersupply fan spin? Right voltage?
Mobo, graphics, 1 stick of memory. Does it boot into BIOS?
Swap graphics, then memory if not.
Add 1 item at the time. And so on...
 
the BIOS on your board is AMI. One beep is memory refresh failure. Your memory timings are probably out of range. It may also be CPU settings. (IMO)Try loading default BIOS settings. Check to make sure your CPU fan is spinning up. Here are your AMI beep codes. Bookmark this page.

If you don't know how to set BIOS defaults, post back. Someone will help you.
