I tried the SiS7012 AND the SoundMAX and even SiS7018 and Intel ones...can I please a pointer or two? Stupid question I know but I've never encountered this before. Thanks!

The best way to get the correct driver is to do as I suggested. get the model of your mobo and go to asus website lookin the support downloads section for downloads for THAT board. ALL the correct drivers for THAT MODEL board will be availavble there. just download the soundmax drivers there, they will be the right ones.

SiS 963LuA is the onboard graphics chip. Go to device manager and double click on sound video and game controller. Click on the entry for the sound device and go to the driver tab. Hit update driver then no don't look for it on line, next install from a specific location. Then Search for best drivers look in these locations. Hit browse then navigate to where you downloaded and unzipped the 7012 drivers. Follow the instructions. Or....

Go to the driver tab and uninstall the device. Reboot. When the new hardware wizard opens navigate to the place where you saved the unzipped files. By the way along with the mobo model, what OS are you using?

Hi, i have also had some problems due to accidently uninstalling soundmax control panel. After searching for months i have read through various forums and managed to re-install soundmax control panel from intels website.

However i have encountered another error which states "No soundmax audio present", "You cannot use soundmax control panel".

I know that the soundmax drivers i downloaded are correct because i got them from intels website and they are compatable with my D865PERL motherboard. PLEASE HELP!!!

If its any help Everest states that my audio adapter is:
Intel 82801EB ICH5 - AC'97 Audio Controller [A-2/A-3]

goto device manager and uninstall your sound adapter. Reboot and when windows wants to find it, cancel it and install the one you downloaded from intel. Otherwise, you can try doing it in Safe Mode..

Thanks for the advice but for some reason, when i go into the device manager nothing shows. Ive clicked on various things like show hidden devices but still nothing shows. Im running Windows XP home edition if its any help.

oo.. thats quite worrying.. have you tried to do this via safe mode or normal? Do you have admin priveliges as well?

There is another thread about a person having problems with their device manager but i cant recall that link right now.. you may have to search for it..

Ive had a look and found some soloutions for my problems with the device manager but none worked. I have full admin priveliges. However the device manager does work in safe mode.

so did you manage to reinstall the sound drivers while you were in safe mode?

Ok, I did all of the things you said up until "double click on the sound adapter". I dont have a sound adapter in the sound video and game controllers file. When I opened up that file, I did see SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio in there with a small exclamation point with a yellow triangle around it. I went to that and clicked update driver but it told me I wasnt able to do that, so I clicked rollback driver and it told me I didnt have anything to roll back on. Now, SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio is gone completely and still wont let me install it. What should I do now?

-By the way, my computer is a Dell and has Windows XP...

See if you can download the drivers missing from Dell's website.. and install them in safe mode. See how that goes

Unfortunately i have still not managed to find a solution. After installing the correct drivers from intel i still get an error message stating "No soundmax audio present", "You cannot use soundmax control panel". Please can you tell me how to uninstall the sound adapter in device manager? If it will help

Removal of Analog Devices SoundMAX Audio Driver

1. From the task bar, click on Start -> Settings -> Control Panel,
or for Windows XP click on Start -> My Computer -> System Tasks.

2. Double-click on the Add/Remove programs icon.

3. Double-click on SoundMAX Install.

4. If the installation media is present, a dialog will appear.
Select Remove and press Next.

5. Reboot the system to fully uninstall the drivers.

1. From the task bar, click on Start -> Run.

2. In the Run dialog box, type X:\path\setup, where X:\path is the
full path to the root of the installation media.

That's what Intel says. If it was me I'd first uninstall the program then before rebooting, go to the device manager and click on Sound Video Game Controllers. Double click on SoundMax AC97 audio and go to the driver tab. Click the uninstall button. Say yes to any are you sure? messages. Then reboot and follow the instructions above, or else just click on the executable icon and let them install automatically If it doesn't say SoundMAX AC97 audio in device manager, what does it say?

chose the day before all that happened.

the good thing about this is that it doesn't matter what laptop model you're using, you can do it with anything.


that's it. this worked for me twice, once when i removed REALTEK a while ago, and now it was SOUNDMAX. TRY IT..

Right I was up till like 4 in the morning trying to fix it ,i followed loads of thread instuctions , even ones on this website , but like an hour ago i fixed it my own way (seriously if i hadn't of i would of kiled someone ,i was so frustrated i felt like crying) but i didnt ... It says Choose by Service Tag ...
I didnt know what this was so I clicked How do I find my service tag?
... I followed their quick insturctions on how to find it,then I entered the details and clicked GO.

SUMMARY SO FAR: Go on website and enter service tag. Click go.



Then there's a list and I filled that in according to my particular computer... (example below)

Importance: All


then a couple of downloads should load on the page ...

I followed the soundmax download expecting at the end for it to say DIDNT WORK.REBOOT SYSTEM NOW ,or whatever it was saying , but it didnt , i lcicked next etc ,restarted computer and it worked
and problem solved
