I was thinking, perhaps what has changed is the complexity of the packets downloaded from UD, that's be a good explanation on why our time and points haven't seen the same drop.

I took it off my laptop beacus I sold it, but I am putting it on my longhorn comp now, since I installed that over Linux (and there was no Nix client). My numbers will go up soon.

Gonna post a small update on how many comps I now have working for UD...

It's my main machine, a Athlon XP @ ca 1466mhz (depends on how OC:ing happy I'm feeling)

My Brothers Athlon TB @ ca 1400mhz

Both these share a 56k dial up connection so therefore I cannot let them run 24/7...

In school however there is a 24/7 broadband connection so there I have one P3 fileserver @ 800mhz, one printserver @ 450mhz and my work machine, also a P3 450...

The first two run 24/7, my work machine almost 24/7 (we frequently reinstall and play around though so not quite 24/7...)

I also have a friend who is crunching for me, he has a Athlon XP 1,7ghz machine that will from now on be online 24/7...

He also has a 700mhz P3 machine, I don't know if that will be on 24/7 though...

Though there is something I'd like you guys helping me out with; I could let my two 1,4ghz comps dial up when they need to return their results...

Though I'd have to be sure that they disconnect after they are done... So if anyone knows a way to make this so I'd like to hear ya out

You can set Windows to disconnect the connection after a set amount of idle time. Something like "Hang up when connection not needed" or something like that in your connection properties. I don't know your version so I can't get the exact instructions, but it should be pretty easy.

Well, thing is that if I did that I would either need a separate connection when I actually am surfing (to prevent it from disconnecting when I'm doing stuff) or change the setting every time I go online...

If I had two connections it would also be impossible to double click an URL link or whatever that would require a conenction; because then it would choose the conenction with the time limit...

And also I wouldn't dare to trust that MS has managed to do this properly; real fun to find out that it didn't disconnect for whatever reason... (read bug...)

I have UD running on my pc whenever I'm not at it, but I have numerous pcs in the basement of my house, just sitting there, doing nothing, How do you think a pentium 200mhz. would run UD?

Well I just ran it for almost 6 days continous on my 1050Mhz T-Bird, turned the heat down in my house and left town for 5 days. That should help us some....not much but some. I can't see what I did now though because the page seems to be down showing our rankings... error 500

i'll get UD to run in my Duron 800MHz since i have broadband now as it is more convenient. Sorry for being idle for the past two months, my ISP back in Brunei had many connection problems, the downloading time for the files was dissapointing....i lost the patience. Hopefully by tommorow will i get things started.

Yeah yeah, my main machine has been down for a while. It's back up in full stride now.

Anyway, I have 2 machines running it now that both are alot faster than your 1.

Stats are currently not updating properly. We are aware of the problem and working to fix it. There is no ETA at this time as to when they will be fixed.

Thank You
paul

Welcome aoj145...
To the forum and the team.
Unfortunately my laptop's fans are sounding very unhealthy so I haven't been running UD/Grid client for a while now

Linux Clients

Does anyone know if there is likely to be a Linux CLI Client for the cancer research? Reason being - I've got a couple of machines sitting at home doing nothing, and I'd like to give something of some use back...

Nope. Here's the official answer from the website.....

==================
Will you support versions for UNIX, Linux, or the Macintosh OS?

Plans for a release on other operating systems have been postponed to concentrate on our Windows release. This will be revisited based on customer and member demand.

Just joined the team . I don't really like this clients interface very much, I much prefer SETI. That is why I have set up a little schedule, on weekends I will be running UD Cancer Research and the rest of the week will be purely SETI .
