could anyone please help. My computer keeps crashing with the blue screen of death. i want to be able to read what it says and i read on one of the posts which said i should "If you right click my computer select properties then the advanced tab then click on system startup system failure and debugging information settings then uncheck the box which says automatically restart also under write debugging information select none".

But when i right click my computer and go to the advanced part it says "choose the advance propities you want for this shortcut", and the tick boxs are not highlited so i cant do anything in there.
Any ideas?

You didn't click on the My Computer but the shortcut to it.

Right click on the "My Computer" you seen in your start menu or in the Windows Explorer folder tree.

I stopped my computer from automatically restarting to see what the blue screen was saying. It said i have hardware problems and should Run. CHKDSK /F. and STOP: 0x00000024 (0x001902FE, 0xF7ADB600, 0xF7ADB2FC, 0x804EDB18). So i ran the CHKDSK /F and as far as i could see everything was ok because the 3 stages all went through and said complete then windows restarted againg. I am not really sure where i go from here (novice with pc's), i would be very greatful if anyone could point me in the right direction.

For bluescreens, unless the culprit is obvious (the module name displayed), always do a memory test first.

Also, check the Event Viewer for any suspicious (error/warning) log entries right before the crash.

When Windows crashes with blue screen, it writes a system event 1001 and a minidump to the folder \windows\minidump
Check system event 1001 and it has the content of the blue screen

I have the same problem.. except I get blue screen of death when playing games mostly and my computer reboots. At first I thought it might have been my cheap PSU so I bought a Enermax Liberty 500W and still no change. So I ran memtest86 and it produces lots and lots of errors after a while. but it ony produces errors with both sticks of ram in.. with each stick of ram by itself memtest has no errors that I know of.. So I bought some new ram to replace this cheap stuff. "OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR 400 Dual Channel Platinum".

Here are my last 4 dump files...

Well I can't read the minidump files, I don't have the debug software installed, so you'll have to wait for another member for that.

In the meantime, is it still crashing with the new RAM? Have you set your BIOS to fail safe defaults? I'm thinking you might have things out of whack with the bus timings. Also make sure you've installed them in the right slots. Check your mobo manual. With dual channel RAM you must have it in the right pair of slots.
Example Slot 1 and 3 or 2 and 4, but not 1 and 2. This is mobo dependant.

My ram has yet to arrive so I cant answer that question.

Every setting in my BIOS is at default except for the FSB setting which I had to manually set to 200Mhz because it was auto setting it to 100Mhz which is incorrect. everything else is default.

And yes my ram is in the correct slots (1 and 3) to be in dual channel mode.

When I run memtest86 I get errors with both sticks of ram in my system. but I cant recall getting any errors with only 1 stick in my computer.. does this give an indication of bad memory?

Hmm, are you sure you have currently 2 matching/equal speed sticks of RAM?
The above quote indicates that one stick is severly slower then the other and the BIOS will automatically clock down to it. This is why with both sticks in the other stick (the faster one) is having problems operating at that slower speed and you get errors.

Yes the two sticks are identical. I bought them as a matched pair and the stickers on them are exactly the same also.. same timings etc. Everest also reports the sticks as being the same.

Now that your FSB is back to 200MHz are you still having BSODs? Does the FSB stay at 200 or does it keep reverting to 100 on each reboot? Does it revert with only 1 stick in or only revert with both sticks in (last question assumes revert is your answer (speeding up my questions.))

Yep BSOD's at 200Mhz, If I set the FSB setting to automatic it sets to 100Mhz no matter what ram I have in this PC. My new ram should be here in 1-2 weeks so I guess i'll have to see then. Or if someone could help me with the minidump files sooner.

Ok, there is another thing that sets the FSB down automatically, CPU overheating. Do you have Speedfan installed? Freeware, google for it if not.

BTW did you laod fail safe defaults in the BIOS while you were in there?

No I dont have speed fan installed but I use everest and Core Center to measure my temps. To me they soom normal. CPU is usually around 15-20c idle and about 40-45c load and video is arounf 20-25c idle and not sure what temp it reaches under load.

I reset my BIOS to defauls a few weeks ago when my onboard LAN went whack and havent changed anything except corrected the FSB speed like I said.. it's been crashing ever since I built this PC.
