------------------ Onto the problem. Every single game that uses DirectX 9.0c will randomly crash to desktop, run many flashing, dissapeering, incorrec textures, and in BF2, the physics will randomly glitche and people will fly away for no apparent reason. BF2, Half Life 2, Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, all these games mess up. The Call of Duty 2 demo runs on a 'force DirectX 7' mode, and it works fine, no problems, high frame rate on high settings, etc. I have tried reinstalling windows to reinstall directX. Didn't work. (I may have done it wrong, but I don't think so) I have the latest drivers and versions of everything, latest game patches, etc. My GFX card and Processor are overclocked a bit, but there seems to be no effect caused by this, as changing them back to normal speeds changed nothing. I've tried adjusting hardware accelaeration and sound accelaration, nothign works. The direct draw and direct 3d acceleration demos in dxdiag work fine, but the games do not. Please help me! I have no clue what is wrong, or how to fix it. |

RE: DirectX 9.0c Problems
In my opinion, your problem lies solely with windows xp. XP IS CRAP! Alot of people say that XP is good because it is more secure and everything. Sure Xp is more secure, but it also cuts your internet connection in half due to the firewalls. Yes you can disable them, but you only gain a little speed back - not what you should. I have 6 different computers. 3 of them have winxp, 2 have winME, and the other has win98. There are very few games that i can run on the comps with xp. No problems on the others with different versions of windows. One of my pc's with xp on it is nearly identical to your specs. I also can't run many of the games you mentioned on it, but they run fine on my comp with winME. Some people say that winME is buggy, unsafe, and shouldn't be used. I think they are wrong. I have been using winme ever since it came out, and the main computer that I play all my games on runs winME. As long as you run your virus and adware/spyware programs at least once a week you shouldn't have any problems with ME. If you have the ability to do so, I would recommend getting rid of XP and switching to an older version of windows - winME for example :-) But thats just my opinion.

rob10279,
WinME is stable? I dun think so. I've had crap - a load of crap in WinME and I'm so glad I've crossed to XP. It's way better. WinME is two generations behind XP. |

Interesting poll, Howard. I'd say that Windows 95 was a good move though. It was light years ahead of Windows 3.1 back then.
In my books, the worst is Windows ME, followed by Windows 98, then Windows 95, then Windows 2000 and the best of the lot is Windows XP. |
