Lost my DVC CD RW drive... Registry Problem. Help!

Am running Fujitzu Lifebook S7020 with TEAC DV-W28E DVD/CD RW optical drive. Drive is working OK, as I can boot from it using Fujitsu recovery disc (which gives me option of reformating my HD and rebuilding my system--not my first choice).

But in WinXP (sp2), I get this error message: Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

I have uninstalled and reinstalled ad nauseum with no effect, in regular and safe mode. I have tried to do system restore to at least a dozen points, but no system restore will take (and now I seem to have lost all my system restore points).

Cannot find driver on the web to try and reinstall.

Any advice or recommendations?

Thanx!

Found the answer!

Thanks for your help. I had already just found the answer at: http://support.microsoft.com/default...;EN-US;q314060

It is apparently a not uncommon registry corruption problem. The conversation you directed me to supplied the same solution.

The world is a happy place again. :-)
