Hi guys,

I have been searching for a new graphics card on the net for hours now and found this site by accident

Have read this thread (altho the majority of it went over my head), I am having the same problems as a few others - i only have PCI slots, no PCI-e and no AGP.

My question is, is there a PCI card that is pixel and vertex shader 2.0 compatable, or am i going to have to replace the motherboard or the PC?

My system is a Dell 2400, with a 3.06 processer and 1 gig of ram (dont know if that makes a difference but i put it anyway lol)

Sorry in advance if this question is asked elsewhere in the forum, its late and i am ready to launch my PC out the window

If you're willing to pay for it, the ATI Radeon X1300 PCI card supports 3.0 shaders. It should be the fastest PCI card available.

Regards

P.S. Welcome to Techspot!!

The GeForce 6200 PCI also has Shader Model 3.0 but there is no PCI card I know of that has Shader Model 2.0 support. I think the 6200 is ur best bet as a cheaper alternative to the X1300 PCI. Why do u need one anyways? To run Aero on Windows Vista? Or to game?

I need one to game - specifically Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. In the system requirements for the game it says to play it you need pixel and vertex shader 2.0 compatable hardware. I tried to play the 10 day trial and the game wont even start because my card is only 1.4.

The X1300 is PCI? I searched the web and i could only find PCI-e versions

Just make sure you have enough power.... I have a NEW GeForceFX 5500 PCI running in my Compaq and I (think) I'm pushing my 250W to the limit...

If you don't want to spend the money for the X1300, you could also get a GeForce 5500 fx here:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814143032

It is pixel and vertex shader 2.0 compliant and would meet the requirements for your game. Don't expect great performance though. The X1300 is the best card out there for PCI.

Just a note, the pci 6200 is again available from 3dfuzion at newegg, and at a great price(~$40usd as I write this).

If you can't afford a x1300, then the pci 6200 should be your second choice.

The 6200 PCI would be the best at the price vs performance point. Great to hear Newegg has it in stock again.

The X1300 is just too expensive for being a normal PCI card. I think the 6200 is the best choice

but this time its on their stealth series not the diamond...
and with lower clocks than the HIS, but with 128 bit.
ive been told that the x1550 uses the same x1300 core, ... i dont know
we need some benchmarks here, i was going to buy the diamond x1300, now i have to wait a little

The X1550 is just an overclocked version of the X1300 with the core shrunk to 80nm vs. 90nm. The X1550 would definitely be better, but I don't know how much. The price is a little ridiculous considering that you could get one for $65 for PCI-Express. It just seems like it goes past the point of diminishing returns.

Nice find. I honestly can't believe they are still releasing "new" pci cards, but it can't be a bad thing I guess.

Finally the x1550 is available at newegg and amazon.com

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814103031

http://www.amazon.com/Diamond-Viper-...0?ie=UTF8&s=pc

apparently a guy from newegg told us that is the pcie version, maybe is a mistake because the pictures are from a real pci card and the codes on the card match with the pci card part number.
Well lets hope that someone from here can get one and make a little review for us
