Yes it does. But where does it state that the only difference is the renaming of the hardware gpu?

It's never stated anywhere, which is the point. ATi/AMD doesn't want the common public to know that the X1550 and X1300 are identical products, since if they sell more of the higher-priced, more-powerful-sounding X1550, they profit more. NVIDIA did this too with its infamous FX5200 & FX5500.

Well writen article! But!

Be serious, these graphic cards belong in a musuem, I do understand that some people are restricted to a budget, but come on. Instead of spendig money on a obsulute pice of technology just dont make sence. Technology is advancing faster by the day, unfortunatly we have to keep up. Red Dog.

You obviously do not understand that not everyone can spend XXXXXXX amount of money on a new system just to upgrade the graphics card. Now that would be stupid. So you don't understand that people are restricted to a budget. You seem to think spending more money on a new system is the answer but you don't seem to know where the money comes from. And just because technology is advancing doesn't mean we should keep up. Most people here have "old" AMD processors. Why keep up when "old" tech performs well enough for you? I have 2 X1900s and they're already "old". But I don't go out and buy two 8800GTXs, even though I can.

yep
i think the same because my 3dmark score with my integrated intel grphics (i have a p4 prescott 2,93 ghz , 2gb ram , a sata HD 7200 rpm
is about the same 5500 +/- , you x1550 should perform better.

First of all, learn how to speak flippin' English!

"Instead of spendig money on a obsulute pice of technology just dont make sence."

What the crap! That's not even a sentence, with an ungodly amount of grammer errors, and you misspelled 5 words!! You obviously don't realize that buying an "obsulute" "pice" of technology is the only option for some people. That's why this thread was started in the first place!!! Even if one of us buys a "non-obsolete" video card, where is it going to go may I ask? Oh look! We all have PCI slots! That means we need a new motherboard, a new CPU, new RAM, and probably a new case and power supply. Before you know it, we're well beyond our budget. Oh, and don't forget the operating system as most of us bought stock computers without a Windows CD. No andresmal, YOU BE SERIOUS!!! You noob.

I'll try it again soon. The 03 and 05 scores seem to be correct, so it must have been a setting in 3dmark '01 that was off. But what does it really matter? That's an extremely old benchmark. BTW, what is single buffer?

Vantage, could you also post a screenshot of the settings you used in the 3dmark 2001 benchmark? This will ensure that I've set them the same as you. Also, the x1550 card does score higher in 1024x768 resolution than the geforece 5500. How does that make the config wrong?

Sure, in previous postīs i have one mistake (single buffer lol), but I talk about the configuration of your machine.

My previous hardware is one Pentium III 1.0GHZ EB 133 FSB and 384MB SDRAM and my score always it was 4105 in 3Dmark2001SE.

This equipment is waiting for one update in processor with Powerleap or upgradeware, is only hobbie... (sorry for my bad english).

SLI requires a PCI-E compatible video card, which the FX5200 is not. Besides, why run any FX card in SLI at all? And I don't see how it's related to anything in this thread. You're lucky I'm not giving you bad karma...

It has a 64-bit bus, while the Diamond has a 128-bit one, which will theoretically beat the HIS one. But practically, both cards should perform the same since the Diamond card would never be able to fully utilize the 128-bit wide memory bus due to the limited bandwidth offered by the PCI bus. So in real life, you'd only see about a 5% performance difference between both.

I would get the one operating at the highest core clock frequency, even if it is a 64-bit bus. Also make sure the card has DirectX 9 cause a lot of pci cards on newegg.com surprisingly only supported up to DirectX 8

Dont some games require you to have a 128-bit bus though?

FX 6200 64-bit Vs 5500 128 bit

Hi,

I'm proud to join this thread. One of my Pc's is a humble Dell dimension 2350 with only PCI. Currently I have an FX5500 (oc 290/350) but was wondering about getting one of the PNY 6200 PCI cards. These appear to be 64-bit only though. Anyone think this will be an upgrade ?

BTW I have got around 70% of the value of old cards on ebay, so these PCI upgrades hold their value pretty well.

well
i know maybe the HIS is better, but i wont be able to use it because its sold for a low profile case (its very small wont fit on my case slot), so if there isnt an adaptor or something to make it fit on my case i will have to buy the diamond.
Is there something to make this small card fit on my case????
