Help Please

Hi Everyone

First post from myself and I have a question I know this board can answer.
I have an Dell Dimension 2400 Series and if I act right now this guy I know is selling a
VisionTek Radeon X1550 - Graphics adapter - Radeon X1550 - PCI - 256 MB DDR II - DVI - HDTV out (sorry I just copied and pasted the same card from the net).
He's selling really cheap but I have to know if it will work with a 250 W PSU.
I have to give him an answer in the next couple hours so if anyone could help I'd think they were the second coming, or just really nice.

Thanks

250 should be enough, the X1550 cards only need 35watts of power and the GPU stays cool. It mention this over at wikipedia.

Is there a chance you can find the Diamond Version?

Bonjour,

I remember my HIS x1550 i-Fan PCI needed 450 watts. First, I've got a 150 watts, but it doesn't work, only on XP "VGA mode". I bought a 450 watts, but 300 might be enough...

The Albatron 8500 GT owns the Sparkle 8500 GT in specs with its DDR 3 memory and 1 GHz mem clock and is much cheaper as well. The 8600 GT is going to be awesome and I look to procure one someday.

I want to see the 8800 in GT or GTS or GTX, etc. for PCI before I make a rig with PCI-E 2.0 slots. That would be awesome and I know there is definitely a niche market for these PCI cards.

Yea the person from the site, told me to look forward to 2 more cards being listed on the site. You can forget about a 88 or GTS or GTX, i am not looking forward to seeing them, because i don't believe it will happen. I just plan to buy a new computer, a secondary one only for new games.

But i am hype about buying one of these PCI cards for my computer to game on. I am positive i should be able to play some of the newer games better with one of those cards, and i can't wait!

But to be honest, buying a new secondary computer is nice and all, but i am just thinking about using this computer which i have now and just upgrade the CPU one day, but stick to PCI. So once i see the results from the New PCI card, i will go from there. Most Likely, i will game with PCI for years to come, you know as long as i can play my games, i have no need for secondary computer. So questions right now, thats all.

There is no point releasing 8800 cards for PCI, since their performance will be not even close to 50% of what you would get with the same card in a PCI-E slot. Even the 8600GT in PCI will be severely restricted by the low bandwidth supplied by the PCI bus.

They can keep making PCI cards, which is always great news to me, however they have to keep it cool, meaning don't over do it in terms of specs.

I say if you are going to release an 8600 GT why not an 8800 version for PCI? The PCI-E bus is 15.4 times faster than PCI, so of course the power would be bottlenecked, but I noticed a huge increase in performance of my old Sparkle 8500 GT over my FX5500 on the PCI bus despite the bandwidth bottleneck, so IMO it is still worth it for the smaller niche market of PCI users. That's 6.5% the speed of a PCI-E slot as opposed to the 50% or less figure, but older games will play like a dream on full settings (Half Life 2, Oblivion, etc).

Really looking forward to the 8600 GT as a stopgap GPU and hoping someone will make an 8800, if not, we should be thankful for the 8600 GT at least, as most people shun supporting the PCI bus interface any longer for GPUs.

Well, I don't doubt it. In the PC world, 13-14 years is like a couple generations. Basic PCI has to end sometime, and considering how many more cards are appearing mainstream as PCIX1 or X2, I think this might be the last generation of PCI cards that will be made. AGP is already dead due to increasing cost (just like normal DDR RAM), PCI is on it's way too.

I do find it odd, though, that they made an 8 series GeForce card for PCI and not AGP. I mean, I've even seen the Sapphire Radeon HD3850 AGP.

Hey Everyone

Im looking to buy a pci gfx card to replace my old fx 5200 for a Dell Dimension 2400.
Problem is i live in NZ and cant buy overseas so ive found two cards to choose from locally a EVGA 6200 256mb $90 NZD(67 US) or a Powercolor HD 2400 Pro 256mb $120 NZD(90 US) and i was wondering is the HD 2400 that much more powerful to warrant a purchase or should i just grab the 6200.

You sure you can't simply order one of the Albatron cards directly and have it shipped to you? The Albatron cards own both of those you mentioned, but if you can't order from Albatron, the Powercolor card is better since they are both 64-bit. BTW, you don't want to mess with 64-bit cards because they are way underpowered and are nowhere as good as the 128-bit ones.

According to one of the other posters on this thread, you can get the Albatron cards directly off of the website , I just provided the link to it. Right now, only the 8500 GT is posted, but I read from several sources that the 8600 GT and the 8400 GS will be posted soon. When I get around to getting another GPU for my PCI slot only PC, I will probably get the 8600 GT from Albatron directly.

I think this thread alone is responsible for the release of the 8 series . They basically went from the 6 straight to the 8, the only problem is with my 2.53 processor , I will never be able to play games like age of conan(came out last month), so going from 6200 to a 7 or 8 series just doesn't seem worth it to me. Maybe if there was a old game I really loved to play and wanted to buff up it would be worth it. One day I will upgrade but I believe I will always keep this rig or loan it out to family it will be a great back up computer. To bad they don't have like a 2-3 pci slot using 8 series card, that plugs into 2-3 slots so you get more out of the card.

To the guy from NZ, message someone on ebay selling a card you want, tell them how easy they can send it to NZ and I bet they will send you a card.

The PCI bus bandwidth is shared among all slots, so PCI SLI would be pretty pointless. Also, where do you guys see a page where you can buy directly from Albatron? All I see is their product page with no info except a specs chart and "Available Soon".

I am going by Tha General's posting above quoting the Albatron representative that you can order directly from them. I would send them some type of notice stating you are interested in purchasing one of their cards directly, and perhaps they will respond. They never responded to my inquiry, but I'm not sure it was processed properly in the first place as I was having problems with their website.
