Is this normal PCI or PCI express slot. It looks funny, but on box it says just pci, crazy or what.

http://www.shopwiki.co.uk/search/Inn...+graphics+card there's others found this site for graphic cards.

Seems to be a AGP card. That is one nice looking box

Cool. What GPU are you buying next for PCI?

Nope, go over to their site. a PCI 6200 Inno3d was never made, they only have AGP and PCIE versions. Plus look at the bus, its a AGP slot card.

Take a look at this
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1217029964768

Bestbuy is about to start selling the 8400GS LOL. for 129 dollars hahahaahaha. The card only cost 79 dollars over at staples. plus the card is too big and alot of people took the card back over at newegg and staples, because its not really a low profile card.

I had the PNY 8400GS and its pretty good if have a good CPU and a large Tower. But the card is not worth 130 dollars, the card is worth 49 bucks.

Yes - I have played around with this (see my blog in the footer of this post). It's not as useful as you'd think, as most nVidia cards already set their IRQ latency very high. It's more used by people with sound card problems where they have stutter caused by the sound card never getting an adequate 'slice' of the CPU because the GPU has grabbed it all. It's very easy to play around with, so worth a try

Hey jives, nice blog i am reading over it now. I have a question, is the sparkle8500GT made for smaller towers?

I bought the 8400GS and i had to take it back, because i might of damage my onboard sound when i was using it, and other people who bought it complain about it being to be big. Its not really a low profile card like Pny said. I manage to put the card in, but i have a hard time doing it. I recently took it back couple weeks ago, just was curous about the 8500GT.

Because i might have to look into getting buying and testing the X1550 or the Albatron 8500 or 8600gt cards instead of the sparkle 8500GT

It's a full depth card, like the 6200 card a few posts before this one. Some cards have a full size PCI backplate but a half width card, and a ribbon cable to a second connector (VGA) or S-video os something. The 8500 runs the full depth of the back plate.

Why is your PC half-height ? If so the 8500 will not fit, but I'd guess few other cards would either ?

It's also wide and takes up 2 PCI slots because the heatsink is so big

Well my motherboard is a Intel 810 and my tower is kinda small, in a way. Every PCI card which i use fit perfect, but the 8400GS pci card was the only one which had trouble, i manage to fit the card, but i had trouble , so that was a bad sign right there.
This is the photo of the 8400GS PCI

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...tem=14-133-245

Can you tell how much different in size is the 8400GS compared to the FX5500 and BFG 6200? Both 6200 and FX5500 fits perfect, but they do look the same size, but the 8400GS seems to be bigger i guess.

So if the 8500GT is just as big as the 8400GS, i think i will pass on buying it.

Well there is a picture of the 8500GT here :
http://www.sparkle.com.tw/product_de...69&sub_id=160#

I guess we need some comon terminology about which dimension is which.

I think the 8500 is not as high (when in it's slot) I notice that the 8400 seems to protrude above the PCI back plate by a margin of what looks like 10mm or so, and I assume this is what caused you the problem i.e you couldn't close the case ? The 8500 does the same but by a smaller margin. How much space do you have from the top of the PCI backplate to the side of the case ?

The length of the card is the same but the 8500 is fatter as the heatsink is huge

No, my tower is not that small, i can closed the case. Putting in the card is a different story, the front part , i guess the long plate was too long or something and when i was trying to put the card in, it wouldn't go in, something was too long, my guess the plate, i had to force it kinda in, it just seem too big in height from what i can see.

Hmmm, I'd suspect the plate wasn't seated quite correctly. Nomally the tag part on the lower end has to engage in a slot formed between the MOB and the back of the case. Sometimes cases and mobo's don't line up quite right. I guess you mean that you push in the card but the end of the plate which you screw down, was still a bit too far above the rim of the case.

You might try modding that card by removing the original heat sink and placing something smaller on the card so it will go in your PC. And, I recommend taking up someone on their offer to send you a free PIII as I see lots of people offering on the many sites General posts to.

Well i don't feel like going through all that trouble. Right now, i have a certain amount of money put aside for next month. I said before that my next buy is one of the Albatron cards, because i might have a chance to buy one sometime next month. If i am not able too, i will buy the sparkle 8500GT and see how it goes.

Whats the point? I am buying my secondary computer next month sometime. A gateway intel dual core 2 with a Diamond 4670 card. My PIII is my main computer and its cool to what it is. I understand what everyone is saying, its nice to have a better P3 with higher speeds, but its alright. Thanks anyways.

If i need to change the speed on this computer, i have someone who would do it at my local pc shop.

Btw Teklord, you know i have agp onboard in my system. I can use it, i wonder why intel added agp onboard, but no agp slot on the 810 motherboard. I found this out today, in my bios i can switch to AGP.

I might get the powercolor hd2400 pci but my Pny 6200 will do for now, no really into buying just yet. Need to sell ( off topic a bit here ) music CD's, some vinyl records, and some PC games. How do you post stuff which you sell on e bay, how do you sort the P&P and get the pancels to sell ?

This means that you have AGP capability built into your mobo, but they never soldered on the AGP slot, just like my mobo. I have AGP 4x capability but there is no slot for it soldered on and you can't do it yourself either.

As for Electromagnetic, I advise saving for a 8500GT as you can definitely get one in the UK as that is where I originally ordered mine from. eBay tips, make sure to make your ads as attractive as possible to get the most money for your stuff. That is the best advice I can offer.

I'm between sticking another 8500GT PCI in this machine or replacing the mobo altogether which will cost more but yield far better results. I may leave my rig as it is for now and when I really want to game, do the mobo switch to PCI-e 2.0.

offtopic : It is a bit tricky. calculating postage is very hard, I try and reuse packaging from other things , then wrap it in brown paper. getting the postage cost right impossible to do accurately in advance. I find the only way is to wrap the parcel with no address and take it to the post office to get an accurate cost. My home scales are not accurate enough and I never get it right. Either that or approximate the postage. Quite a few ebayers seem to inflate the postage cost to make more profit, and I'm very wary of doing that. I used to have a note in my auctions explaining that once the bidder won , I'd get them a more accurate postage cost, but I think people like to know upfront.

I also think it's worth accepting paypal if you can as more people like to pay that way. paypal is a bank which charges you for paying money in or taking it out, so it's a bit of a rip off. however if you leave the money in paypal and use it to buy more stuff with it's not too bad.

I agree that the auction should be as attractive as possible. I use a desktop tool to create my auctions and then upload them. It has 30+ templates to make them look better . eBay have templates but they charge you for them. I use GarageSale on a Mac for auctions which look pretty cool.

I'd also suggest looking at completed auctions for similar items. there is a 'completed' button on the left hand side of search. This shows you what your item might go for and you can learn from the more successful auctions.

I'm listing some controller boards at present. I've got a stack of 3.5" disks with bad blocks which I replaced from various PC's. there seems to be some market for the controller boards, as sometimes these go in other wise healthy disks. I then cannibalise the rest of the disk, the magnets go on the fridge, the shiny platter is a cool mirror/bird scarer and the high grade aluminium chassis goes for scrap metal
