Here, quoting myself from a bit earlier. This is the PCI8500GT. The 8600GT is still pretty much nowhere to be found. As to how it will run CoD4, depends on your CPU.

I FOUND the 8600GT on online sites, but not in the united states anyways.

Also, to answer the question, the 8500GT and 8600GT is faster, then the 3450, i think. Amy told me that the 3450 from AMD will shipped with much higher core and memory then the other 3450 , but i am guessing it will have 64bit, so i can't really say how faster the card is going to be.

If the AGP or PCIE version of the 3450 has 600 core and 500 memory , 1000DDR2, then what would the PCI version have, 700 or 600? Just have to wait and see. I haven't found anything on the new 3450 PCI, but i am keeping my eye on it.

There is no way in hell the HD3450 will be any faster than the 8500GT or 8600GT.

Can I have a link to the PCI8600GT being sold ? I've no problems with overseas deliveries and I got an Atom 330 (The dual core) mini-ITX system coming in I'd like one for.

+1 to posting the 8600GT PCI link. I got my Sparkle 8500GT from overseas and it didn't bother me one bit.

I managed to find the PCI8600GT-256X, but it is either online shops in Russia, which I do not trust one bit (Despite being born in Moscow... That's just not a place to put your credit card # at, not now...) or in europe (for around 150 euros, yikez !).

While it is not likely the card is twice more powerful on the PCI bus, the difference is still massive.
thanks a lot for the info. i decided to order the Sparkle 8500GT and it should be arriving tomorrow. no clue about this overclocking cores/memory stuff. i know what overclocking means, but no idea how to do it for cpu or gpu..

can anyone explain specifically for the 8500GT? is there any software that just configures the overclocking automatically? sorry...extreme newb here

Hi, I have posted 2 sets of results in this thread for the 8500GT, the first with a considerable GPU & GPU memory overclock and the second without. In both cases you can also see the score in the benchmark 3dmark03 which those settings achieved. Hence you can get faster FPS from a card with overclock. Too much overclock and you will get corruption on the screen ('artefacts'), BSOD or even damage the card due to overheat. I'd strongly suggest you also get a tool to monitor the core temperature of the card, like speedfan. speedfan is my favourite tool bar none, and can report the core temperature of the 8500GT (and most other PCI graphics cards). I try to keep mine under 50 degrees C

I used to use a feature in the nVidia controller which could be unlocked with a registry edit called coolbits. However nVidia have removed this facility in more recent drivers. I have used a variety of tools but powerstrip is simple and easy to use, though does cost a few dollars. There are other free OC tools out there. The trick is to achieve improved results without any instability or artefacts appearing on the screen.

nVidia do have a seperate tool, the name of which escapes me, but it only works with nVidia motherboards. I don't know of any auto-tool as it's a very subtle process. Most people seem to increase the GPU by 10%, check for stability, then apply a similar increase to the memory, then check. You can keep repeating this until you see any problems , then throttle back a little.

Basically the process is trial & error.

Yeah, seen that in my search. The price is absolutely crazy though.

Tatu fan ? God no.

ATITOOL has a "find max OC" option that works reasonably well. It tweaks clocks and checks for artifacts, scaling down the OC if they appear until it settles at some clocks. It is not 100% foolproof, but it works often (I used it to find the general whereabouts of the max OC on my PCI8500GT). Don't let the name fool you, it works for NV cards as well (The program in general only seems to work in winXP, but I doubt you will install vista anyway).

Betzefer?

PS thanks direwolf007 for the ATITOOL suggestion. I noticed your OC settings on the 8500GT are much higher than I dared. You amplifier definitely goes all the way to 11 !

I'm not paying $200+ dollars for any PCI GPU, I'll stick to the Sparkle 8500GT for now, especially since it is in America.

Be careful with the "find max OC" function in ATiTool as I fried my FX 5500 with that. I left it on overnight and it was still running several hours later running my GPU at speeds way way over what it should have been and it still hadn't found the max OC.

I kind of like Tatu, you must be Russian General?

Obviously ATITOOL needs to be supervised, but it did a good job on my PCI8500GT.

You should not pay over 100 for a pci graphics card.

Well the BFG 6200 IMO is worth 80 dollars. I paid 116 dollars for it. its a very powerful card, the 6200 pci series.

For PCI cards = 50 - 70
pcie - 150 is my limit.

Whee...

Looks like I might not need overseas deliveries anymore !

The Sparkle 8400GS PCI and Sparkle 8500GT PCI showed up on sale, locally, in Israel.

Makes the next mITX projects somewhat easier to manage

Sparkle is selling their cards pretty much everywhere, unlike albatron.

Finally, BFG release another new PCI card:

I have had so much success with my BFG OC 6200, i might end up buying it in a few weeks to try it out.

From what i can see, the bandwidth is 9.6, core at 450 and memory at 567, from the PCIE version anyway. Also this card looks interesting to buy, however if the card is the same size as the pcie version, forget about it.

Another 8400GS PCI. I GUESS its about that time for them to start showing up. Too bad they aren't making 8600GT's.
