BSOD that has owned my friend (and me trying to fix it)
Hello everyone.
I've recently come across a problem that is annoying the crap out of me. The BSOD happens when my friend plays WoW. The time seems to be random. Below is the entire BSOD cut 'n' pasted: Loading dump file new.dmp ----- 32 bit Kernel Mini Dump Analysis DUMP_HEADER32: MajorVersion 0000000f MinorVersion 00000a28 DirectoryTableBase 0e39a000 PfnDataBase 81a51000 PsLoadedModuleList 805624a0 PsActiveProcessHead 80568558 MachineImageType 0000014c NumberProcessors 00000002 BugCheckCode 100000d1 BugCheckParameter1 0000005c BugCheckParameter2 00000009 BugCheckParameter3 00000001 BugCheckParameter4 f81b7c42 PaeEnabled 00000000 KdDebuggerDataBlock 805522e0 MiniDumpFields 00000dff TRIAGE_DUMP32: ServicePackBuild 00000200 SizeOfDump 00010000 ValidOffset 0000fffc ContextOffset 00000320 ExceptionOffset 000007d0 MmOffset 00001068 UnloadedDriversOffset 000010a0 PrcbOffset 00001878 ProcessOffset 000024c8 ThreadOffset 00002728 CallStackOffset 00002980 SizeOfCallStack 00000374 DriverListOffset 00002f88 DriverCount 00000074 StringPoolOffset 000051f8 StringPoolSize 00000fe8 BrokenDriverOffset 00000000 TriageOptions 00000041 TopOfStack b87d6c8c DebuggerDataOffset 00002cf8 DebuggerDataSize 00000290 DataBlocksOffset 000061e0 DataBlocksCount 00000003 Windows XP Kernel Version 2600 (Service Pack 2) MP (2 procs) Free x86 compatible Kernel base = 0x804d7000 PsLoadedModuleList = 0x805624a0 Debug session time: Thu Apr 19 10:40:26 2007 System Uptime: 0 days 21:01:25 start end module name 804d7000 806fd000 nt Checksum: 00214CD4 Timestamp: Tue Dec 19 08: 14:53 2006 (4587F3DD) Unloaded modules: b7e29000 b7e54000 kmixer.sys Timestamp: unavailable (00000000) b7e29000 b7e54000 kmixer.sys Timestamp: unavailable (00000000) b7e29000 b7e54000 kmixer.sys Timestamp: unavailable (00000000) b7f44000 b7f6f000 kmixer.sys Timestamp: unavailable (00000000) b7f44000 b7f6f000 kmixer.sys Timestamp: unavailable (00000000) b88a7000 b88d2000 kmixer.sys Timestamp: unavailable (00000000) f8d09000 f8d0a000 drmkaud.sys Timestamp: unavailable (00000000) b88d2000 b88f5000 aec.sys Timestamp: unavailable (00000000) f87a6000 f87b3000 DMusic.sys Timestamp: unavailable (00000000) f88e6000 f88f4000 swmidi.sys Timestamp: unavailable (00000000) f8cf0000 f8cf2000 splitter.sys Timestamp: unavailable (00000000) f8886000 f888f000 processr.sys Timestamp: unavailable (00000000) f8abe000 f8ac3000 Cdaudio.SYS Timestamp: unavailable (00000000) f8530000 f8533000 Sfloppy.SYS Timestamp: unavailable (00000000) Finished dump check I know it has something to do with drivers. I'm seriously stumped though. I've updated a few drivers but it still crashes at random. The computer itself, is run by an extremely novice user that likes to look at pr0n and NEVER update his drivers. I found device drivers on his computer dating back to 2001 and 2002. I don't really know what the unloaded modules section means but could that be pointing to the source of the problem being the sound card? |

Are you using onboard audio drivers? That BSOD indicates the problem is kmixer.sys, which is the Microsoft Kernel Audio Mixer. So update the sound card drivers or if it is onboard, update the chipset drivers from the chipset manufacturer's page.

Thanks for the quick reply.
It's a PCI SB live card so I update those drivers. He has no idea what the card is and the drivers it's currently using is from 2002. and since I'm doing most of this remotely, I basically have to go over there and crack the case to see what it is. Thanks again! |
