Still Receiving Detecting IDE drives

I've done many methods for this problem.

-Disconnect each drive and try one at a time
-Use new ribbon cable
-Switch from CS to MASTER on HARDDRIVE

The last method I have done was, resetting CMOS through jumper. Did the usual method and booted PC. Voila! It worked. So I shut down the computer and boot it back up. I am now stuck on BIOS again while Detecting IDE Drives. Also, I hear a clicking sound from the PC. What's going on?

The clicking sound is nearly always the sound of a hard drive dying... if it is a Maxtor or Western Digital or Hitachi.

it is a western digital wd400. How can all of a sudden it does this?

Also, how come it worked after the reset of CMOS then when i shutdown and power it back up, it goes back to the problem? :(

Common problem with the WD... Thousands upon thousands of them have failed.... if it is the silver colored (metal) drive. When WE made a fix on new or refurbs, they changed the color to black.
It is defective. Replace it while you can recover any data that is on it.
