First, there was dial-up. Then came DSL, satellite, cable and most recently fiber. In the wireless world, 802.11ac Wi-Fi is replacing 802.11n, and 4G LTE cellular is leaving 3G and HSPDA+ by the wayside. Every new communication technology is faster than the last.
That's great news for our data-hungry homes and gadgets, but all is not sunlight and sparkles. Fiber, for example, is hugely expensive and needs to be run the "last mile" to every home that signs up.
