All my browsers freeze regularly and require reboot to fix

I am having this strange problem I have never seen before where no matter what browser I use (Firefox 6, Chrome 13, or IE 8), I frequently have to re-start my laptop in order to get my browsers to stop freezing.

At some point after using the internet intermittently throughout the day, my browser will freeze. Usually I am using Google Chrome's latest version. Once it freezes, I usually cannot Task Kill every instance of Chrome. Even if I can, usually the application, the Internet, or both, become extremely sluggish.

I am still shown as connected to my router and the router does not show any error lights. Yet re-starting always solves the problem. I have updated the driver to the newest one on the Intel website to try to fix it, but still having issues.

So far I haven't been able to find anyone else having a similar problem by searching on Google. Any ideas?

My laptop is a 3-year-old HP G60T-200CTO. It is running Windows 7 SP1 Home (upgraded using a clean install option from Windows Vista Home).

Wireless adapter is an internal Intel WiFi Link 5100
I have Service Pack 1 installed and the latest updates for everything showing on Windows Update.

When you upgraded to Windows 7 did you also update the chipset drivers for your Gateway?

No, the gateway is an old 2Wire 1000HW DSL router/gateway combo unit.
I logged into the gateway, but it does not show anything available as far as updates. I'll try and check the 2wire website and see if they have any info tho.
