Apple has released an update for its iPod touch, iPhone and iPad, delivering new applications, performance improvements and security fixes. iOS 4.2 is especially noteworthy for the iPad, which receives some long-awaited features -- namely multitasking, something that has been available to iPod touch and iPhone users since iOS 4.0. The iPad also now supports folders, allowing you to organize your home screens.

Meanwhile, Apple has added AirPlay and AirPrint to all aforementioned devices. The former lets you stream media from your portable device to a compatible TV or speakers, and the latter lets you print content wirelessly, though it only works with select HP printers at the moment. The Game Center should now also be available to iPod touch, iPhone and iPad owners, allowing them to play social multiplayer games.

The 624.3MB update brings various other changes, including improved web page searching in Safari, new fonts in the Notes app, the ability to reply to calendar invitations, keyboard dictionary and accessibility enhancements, text messaging with custom text tones (iPhone only), and improved enterprise security features. ZDNet also highlights several vulnerabilities that have been addressed in WebKit.

Personally, the most important feature in iOS 4.2 is the free app "Find My Iphone", which had to be previously purchased with a mobile me! account and wasn't too cheap at all... I think this is a great move by Apple, some of us still don't feel too confident taking out our iphones 4 in the street because of a possible robery... with this, at least I can track it :)

No Iphone teethering yet? Sorry not interested!

iPhone tethering was out AGES ago. You just need to ask your mobile provider or jailbreak the phone.

Btw 600MB for an update is just ridiculous.
