Brand new computer running extrememly slow

I just built a new computer. It's the 6th computer I've built, so I have some clue as to what I'm doing. Here are the specs:

AMD64 3500
Western Digital 300GB hard drive
K8 Triton MOBO
2GB dual channel DDR RAM

The problem is Windows is running extremely slow. It took almost two days for Windows to install (and I'm not exagerating). And now that it's finally installed, it takes the computer a couple hours to actually start up. When Windows finally does start up, it takes an enormously long time for it to do anything. I'm not sure what could be casuing the problem. In CMOS, everything seems to be working as normal. it sees all the RAM, it doesn't register any problems with the CPU or the MOBO. My guess is bad RAM or CPU. I originally thought it was the hard drive, but tried another one with still the same problem. Even tried a different video card as well. Right now the only devices connected to the MOBO is the hard drive and the CD-ROM.

Does any one have any ideas?

Your mother board is a amd 64 3500 If im correct that is a 64 bit computer.
because of that you will need to use the 64 bit edition of windows xp not the 32 bit edition

Hope this helps

Maybe it would be a good idea to download Memtest86+ from www.memtest.org

Let it run for at least seven passes. This should let you know if you have a ram problem or not.

Try running your system first with one stick of ram and then with the other stick of ram.

Also what speed is your ram?
