Call of Duty: Ghosts has earned a number of accolades since its release earlier this month. The latest iteration in the hit franchise is the number one selling PlayStation 4 and Xbox One game in North America at Best Buy, GameStop, Target and Walmart. As such, it is also the most played title on both next generation consoles according to a press release from Activision.

The game, which launched on November 5 for pretty much every console except the Xbox One which hit retail on November 22, is also number one in standalone Xbox One software sales in the United Kingdom according to GfK Charttrack. Microsoft also revealed Ghosts is the most played Xbox 360 multiplayer game.

Across all versions of the game, more than a billion multiplayer matches have already been played while Ghosts players have prestiged more than 2.2 million times. Gamers have earned over 3.3 trillion experience points (XP) in the process according to internal gameplay statistics.

In a statement on the matter, Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg said Call of Duty: Ghosts is leading the next generation. He reiterated the sales achievements listed above and also said they have the best community of fans in the world. Activision is thrilled that gamers are joining them on next generation consoles, he concluded.

A few weeks ago it was revealed that Ghosts had reached more than $1 billion in sales during opening weekend although that figure is a bit misleading as that is how many games Activision sold to retailers, not how many copies were purchased by gamers.

Wow! The only real big name title on the next gen consoles is the top selling game on next gen consoles! In tomorrows news, if you stand outside in the rain, there's a good chance you'll get wet.

I agree. Most BF franchise fanboys play BF4 on PC. I would like to see a comparation of BF4 vs CoDG on PC... If being the only big title on launch is what you need to be the number 1 than I'd rather stand in the rain :p

Next gen consoles, and sold to retailers not consumers. The wordplay obviously means that GTA 5 still holds the crown for most copies actually sold on day 1. Activision and their tricky tactics with their re-release of Call of Duty 4 every year.

Fanboys are strong in this one.
It's pitiful, this game franchise lives off the 12 year olds who think the game makes them mature because of its m rating.

At least GTA 5 still holds all the Guinness records while only being available on 2 consoles.

Theres only a few AAA titles right now: Forza 5, Dead Rising 3, battlefield, Killzone, Assasins Creed, and (I should not count this) CoD.

Out of all those, it's no surprise because there's such a huge cod fan base. Plus BF4 has a bigger PC than console fan base.

Yeah, no kidding, why is this even news? And yet it apparently upset a bunch of people who don't like CoD and are taking offense that this story isn't about how well GTA sold.

If your aiming that at me because I said that "At least GTA 5 still holds the record"...I don't know where your getting that idea.

However I think its pitiful that franchises who put no effort into games are making the most money.

The games of next gen are just off to the start and were only warming the gears of the consoles up for the next gen games to come. Lots of great games are sure to come, but at this point its not a surprise because CoD is one of the few titles and its popularity with the kids still shows.

Cod u say it is so expected that I could say the chances of it not being the best selling game is as low as a chance of a gun missing a bullet when its right touching your head or skin ive said enough *bang *bang* when will they ever learn that Cod never literally changes and they should stick with one game first day of Call of duty I already knew people who bought the game selling it cause of disappointment..u really cant expect much from a game that gets refreshed once per year quantity doesn't mean quality it doesn't work that way

Cod u say it is so expected that I could say wurble burble turble gerbil
I don't really want to be that guy, but a little effort in grammar and punctuation definitely goes a long way in the comments section.

Anyway, the argument that it's just the same game reprinted isn't really that good of an argument, especially considering that this is just a misleading report on sales figures. Irrespective of what you think of it, the Call of Duty franchise is good at what it does, keeps its targeted demographic happy and spawns a constant stream of Call of Duty clones better than a girl from Essex spawns STD victims.
So what if it's a foaming at the mouth, right wing, gun and burly white men fellating war crime extravaganza, in which you're a vastly superior white man systematically wiping out foreigners and ethnic minoritys? Isn't that what the right wing and white, teenage boys want to play? The fact that it barley changes from game to game isn't a flaw either. That too, is to appeal to its right wing demographic, who fear change like Justin Beiber fears testosterone.
At the end of the day, it does its job better than any of the other gun engorged, chest-high-wall-fests out there and continues to swallow up Christmas sales, so expecting any of that to change any time soon, or arguing against it is, at best, pointless.

first of all my English is bad and I know how bad it is since I barely ever speak English except on the internet and you really don't learn much but only to destroy it on the net so it aint really helpful its kind-off your trying to make a fool out of me second of all the concept of this is that when they release a game people expect some standards at least but the game seems to always stay the same level of concept well u might say its an fps but battlefield seems to do it better in some way while all Cod does is just a bit of graphical improvement and a few game modes the only thing to be enthusiast about maybe for the single player story nothing else multiplayer is just a refreshment u could easily stick to the older versions

I was unaware that English isn't your first language and so I apologise.
That doesn't give someone license to write butchered English. For example, even non-English speakers are familiar with the concept of sentences.

I would definitly place Killzone above CoDG. Simply because its more renewing than CoDG...

I read some of these comments and was like :D its the console version of the android vs apple debate. Seriously though wtf is wrong with people? Ok so it's top selling on both consoles wtf are you all pissing and moaning about. Even if it's top selling because of 12 yr old kids( lol, are you serious?) how and why does that matter to you? Buy the game of your choice and move along. My goodness!

Soo don't buy the game? CoD has followed the same formula for a while now, because it works. And tbh I think this time around they really tried to mix it up (but not to much). Any my my point is no one is forcing you to buy the game further more you can clearly wait until the reviews and extended gameplay are out before you make a decision to purchase. Soo..what the issue here? My point exactly...not one fcuk!
