I brought my PC over to my friends house and hooked it up. Then powered it on. It gave me a strange message like "system profile lacks administrator power" or something strange. It took like one minute to get the desktop. Then I realized nearly all my icons were missing. My wallpaper wasn't the background anymore. I tried WMP and I had none of my songs anymore. What happend?

Windows cannot load the locally stored profile. Possible causes of this error include insufficient security rights or a corrupt local profile. If this problem persists, contact your network administrator.

DETAIL - An I/O operation initiated by the registry failed unrecoverably. The registry could not read in, or write out, or flush, one of the files that contain the system's image of the registry.

EDIT: I did a system restore to yesterday and the problem has gone away.

Glad your system is fine.
Post here should you encounter any further problems

Well after the restore my computer was acting very laggy and was obviously not well. I decided to format, which is hard because my DVD-RWs are controlled by a controller card. So I had to open the PC. I finally got Windows XP PRO SP1 installed. I proceeded to update Windows. Then I get a message "windows is not valid" from the stupid validation process. So basically I'm screwed even though I have a genuine copy.

OH! So I called M$. The calling times are 5AM-9PM. The time was 5:27AM and it didn't work. M$ failed to stick up to there part of the bargain by not working. Updates still installed but, this is very annoying and stupid.
