Computer display distorts and turns into black and white lines with some color

I've included a picture because I don't think I can accurately describe what the issue looks like. It happens every so often, maybe not every time I use my laptop, but seems to happen when I move my mouse. It will go away after a few seconds but then if I wait a few seconds before moving my mouse again it usually happens again. As you can see, there's not only lines but the display distorts on the right side. When this happens, everything is still functional.

I have a Dell Inspiron 5520. I really need to fix this because I want to sell my laptop so I can buy a new one for college this fall! Any help is appreciated.

Sounds like you have a bad graphics driver installed, download this and extract it to a folder.
https://www.cpuid.com/downloads/cpu-z/cpu-z_1.84-en.zip
Reboot the computer once, then run cpu-z, there is a cpu tab, graphics card tab, memory tab.
Write down that information and bring it back to me, so I can see about getting you new gpu drivers.
If using new gpu drivers doesn't work, then your next best bet is to replace the screen with a new inverter.

Thank you for replying. Here's the information from the program. What makes you think that this is because of the graphics driver? I'm not questioning your judgement because I know nothing about this issue, just curious how you came to that conclusion?

Ok lets give this run a first and see what it will do:
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/do...s-Driver-for-Windows-7-8-64-bit?product=81500
If that does not work try this and see what it suggests and will install.
I don't think windows 10 update drivers will work because it'll use whatever generic driver has for it at the time.
https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/detect.html
Now if it does install newer drivers or you decide to remove them through installation and reinstall them.
Reboot once and just test it for half a day or half a night, if you get the same garbage graphics like before.
The screen will need replacing but to be sure of that ask usafret the super moderator and see what he suggests.

The first link asks if I want to install audio and graphic drivers that are older than the ones I currently have. Should I install them or go to the second link?

If they are older, don't install them it would be waste of time, check your pm inbox I know of someone who will be able to help you.
