Dell launches its slim and stylish XPS 15z notebook

After weeks of teasing Dell has finally launched the XPS 15z, a 15.6-inch notebook inspired on the now-defunct Adamo line, but instead of gunning for the MacBook Air at least this initial model looks to give the 15-inch MacBook Pro a run for its money in terms of looks and features. At 0.97 inches thick and 5.5 lbs., it's just a hair thicker than Apple's notebook, and comes equipped with the latest Intel Sandy Bridge processors as well as a starting price tag of $999.

The base model gets you a dual-core 2.3GHz Intel Core i5-2410M processor, a 1,366x768 pixel display, switchable Nvidia GeForce GT525M graphics with 1GB of memory, 6GB of DDR3 RAM, a 7200RPM hard drive, a slot-loading DVD writer and plenty connectivity options, including Ethernet, two USB 3.0 ports and an eSATA / USB 2.0 combo port, one Mini DisplayPort, an HDMI 1.4 jack, headphone and microphone jacks, and dual-band Intel 802.11a/g/n Wi-Fi.

As usual Dell offers some configuration options so you'll be able to pack in a quad-core processor, faster video options, a 1,920x1,080 display and a Blu-ray drive to deliver extra value to that full HD screen.

The non-removable battery is housed internally and promises 8-hours of life on the go, with Nvidia's Optimus technology helping to reduce battery drain by better managing the graphics hardware. Rounding out the feature set is a chiclet style backlit keyboard and support for Intel's Wireless Display. Check out some early impressions at PCMag and Cnet.

The XPS 15z will be available today from Dell's global online store with prices ranging from $999 to $1,534.

OOOO... PURDY... lol. I'm impressed by the additional configuration options actually, it'd be nice if Dell and other manufactures had those kinds of options for some of ther other systems at that screen size.

edit: eh... I looked at the system on Dell's website, and the actual abilty to customize is severely limited. Aside from the screen you have to pick one of their options to get say more ram or the faster processor.

If I remember correctly, the adamo was like this too. Bad call by dell. I just wish that they could make the same exact model, but with the option of a gt 555m 1.5gb ddr5 and an i7 2.0 Ghz w/turbo boost to 2.9Ghz.

always following the footsteps, never ahead. how about come out with a product that outpaces the macbook pro, and not imitate it. a lot of people like myself already went out and purchased the Macbook pro and turned it into a full on PC laptop.
