The depth chart over at DJI is now a bit deeper thanks to the addition of a brand new video-equipped drone, the Inspire 1. This quadcopter is a heck of a machine on its own but what really sets this remote-controlled gadget apart is the built-in camera with a three-axis stabilizer that can capture 4K imagery.
The camera is able to snap 12-megapixel still images in Adobe DNG RAW through its 94-degree wide angle, non-fisheye lens. The landing gear automatically retracts upon takeoff so you have a complete 360-degree eye in the sky. On the video side, you can capture footage at 24 or 30 frames per second.
There’s even a threaded filter mount to attach various filters if you’re going for a different look (polarizer or neutral density, for example). The camera is modular and detachable so one could replace it with something even nicer down the road.
Best yet, you can fly the Inspire 1 with a buddy using two separate controllers. One person is in charge of the drone while the other operates the camera – very cool. In addition to adjusting camera parameters like exposure compensation and the like, the camera operator can pan and tilt the camera to help nail the perfect shot.
As you may have guessed, the DJI Inspire 1 isn’t cheap with pricing set at $2,899 for the single remote version and $3,399 if you want an extra controller. Feel free to check out DJI’s product page for a complete list of features and specifications.
