Format in fat32

It's ages since I formatted an SD card but it is very simple. Stick it in the card reader slot, look for the device in This Computer that shows all your connected drives. Right click on the SD card and one of the options that comes up will be Format. You may need to try a few of the letters that identify drives to find which one is the SD card. You can choose the format type you want. Be careful not to force the card in the slot in case you have it the wrong way round.

I recently had a download screw up one of my SD cards [as well as a USB stick]. My flash storage was unusable and Windows would not format them. The following application allowed me to format the SD card and USB stick, making them usable again. For the life of me I can't understand why Microsoft's utility failed at formatting them.

SD Formatter 4.0 for SD/SDHC/SDXC
This software formats all SD memory cards, SDHC memory cards and SDXC memory cards. SD Formatter provides quick and easy access to the full capabilities of your SD, SDHC and SDXC memory cards.

The SD Formatter was created specifically for memory cards using the SD/SDHC/SDXC standards. It is strongly recommended to use the SD Formatter instead of formatting utilities provided with operating systems that format various types of storage media. Using generic formatting utilities may result in less than optimal performance for your memory cards.

The SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards have a "Protected Area" on the card for the SD standard's security function. The SD Formatter does not format the "Protected Area". Please use appropriate application software or SD-compatible device that provides SD security function to format the "Protected Area" in the memory card.

I don't know for sure but I think the default format for SD cards are FAT/FAT32 or exFAT.

I have the same problem - I am trying to format card to fat32 for a tablet as I am unable to mount the card in my tablet = lenovo tab 2 a10-30

When I put the SDXC into my desktop I am unable to view the card , it says it's unrecognized ( I am running windows 8 ) so I don't even get the option to format it

I have downloaded and installed various formatting software to see if I can see it, to format but nothing works ( I have tried the software linked in this thread already )

SD card does not appear in devise manager -

I have trawled the internet all morning and nothing works

Sadly if the software above doesn't work and your card reader is known to be good, there may not be any hope for your card.

SD cards have become far more sophisticated. On an older computer the slot may not be SDHC compatible. That means it will only work with SD cards of max size 2Gb. You could buy an SDHC adapter to plug in a USB slot if no firmware update is available.
