Game Recommendations?

Em... I want to get an online pc game(never played online before), and I want to get a well known one, like World Of Warcraft but... not. Looking around here and elsewhere it seems that Battlefield 2 is pretty big. I actually wanted to post this question on Gamespot.com, and I signed up and all, but I couldn't start a thread, or even post!!! Sorry, I'm getting away from the point. My computer is ok, it's a Dell Dimension 5150 and all the standard parts I got with it. I really don't care what kind of game it is, I like all kinds, but it would be much better if it had a single player as well, that's the reason I don't want to get WoW. Basically I just want some recommendations. Hope that wasn't too much of a novel. Thanks.

Ovvn.you is right. You can't get better than half life 2. It has an excellent single player mode and excellent multiplayer as well. Other choices are f.e.a.r. or Call of duty 2.

Ok, did a little googling and it looks really good. It reminds me of Red Faction(best ps2 fps ever). Do I have to pay to use it online?
Oh, yeah, and do you think my pc can handle it?

I still don't really get the whole online thing... you join a server, and give your credit card information, and you pay every month? For every game? I've heard of free servers, are they any worse, or dodgy? I think I'll get that half-life 2 game though, it looks good.

Shadowbane which is a MMORPG just went free subscription. Plus the game is free to download.
Some online games you just have to pay for the software, the access is free. Games like WoW, you pay for the service and the software.

So Shadowbane is completely free?
:slurp:
What about Half-Life 2? Do I just have to pay for the game?
(I don't own a credit card, I'm 16)

Most of the games in the interesting world are free to play online (excluding internet fees of course ;)) If you want to play a free realistic, good graphics team-based war game, try out America's Army at americasarmy.com, Enemy Territory is definitely worth a try also. For World of Warcraft, you gotta pay a certain amount of money every month even after buying the game. Some people suicided though because they got so addicted to this game and something bad happened to them (EverQuest too!).

P.S: Yay, I'm an eleven year old Techspot member (W00T! <---RARE)
P.S2: What does P.S even stand for?

-Counter Strike Source with Half life 2. I dont really like any 1 player games for the PC but i would have to say Half Life 2 is a great 1 player game. The multiplayer version is call Counter Strike Source which i think is one of the best games out there. I probably didnt like it that great at first but when you get the hang of playin it, the game is awesome.
-Another game that is good is Call of Duty 2. Great graphics and gameplay along with good single player play.
-If you are looking for a good single player game, not sure if your computer can handle it but Doom 3 is great single player game, and the multiplayer play is alrite but i dont think it compares to Counter Strike Source.
- Everquest is a great game as well. It doesnt have single player but the game play is great, though quite addicting (which is why i don't play it).

Wow, thanks for all the recommendations :)
I think I'll try America's Army, better not get stuck into too many games at the moment though, I'm trying to devote time to learning guitar
P.S. Akifudden, P.S. stands for post script = put there as an afterthought.

I also vouch for HL2. To bad you don't have a credit card, if you download Steam from www.steampowered.com, it's free, install it and run, I think there is a free game or two, and perhaps demos that can be played. With a credit card you can buy a "package" which includes HL2 and source mods and lots of other variants. If you buy HL2 off the shelf retail, you may get less games.
I don't even play CounterStrike, I just like Half Life and all the mods that are out there! I play single player over and over. Call me a monkey.

As for MMORPG, the favorite in my circle of friends is Lineage II. Not the for-pay retail, but all the free servers out there. Namely L2World and L2Dragon. And also the server that is run by my friend (it's small now and not a ton of members, great for getting started) is L2nxa. Check out l2nxa.com. You can download the client (all free) which is about 2gb in size. And then create an account, free also. And play, free. To play on many free servers, you can mod the game client, or just install multiple copies of the game for each server you play on.
In my opinion, it has way better graphics then WOW or Anarchy or Final Fantasy and so on. Visit the official Lineage II web site www.lineage2.com for screenshots, videos, demos, info and everything.

Really, to spend all day and night playing games, all you need is HL2, Lineage2, and Battlefield 2. Cause you know, the number "2" is so fun.

And speaking of BF2, also good fun, but I'd put CS:Source and BF2 online play in totaly different categories. In BF2, you can hardly run solo, it is very much a team based game, and it would be good to get yourself in a clan eventually. But at the least you'll have to learn how to play as a TEAM to get anywhere.

Anyway, info overload, but those are my tops choices. Then I'd add the classic Total Anihilation to that, can be played in a LAN party, or single, still great fun. And that my friend, covers the 3 main game classes: FPS, MMORPG, and RTS.

Have fun.

Just a thought but I dont like a lot of the websites for these MMORPG's They seem to contain adware and other nasty little viruses and worms. Plus, they have some inappropiate content for some ppl on ts who are 11 or 12. Perhaps some other MMORPG's recommendations like Runescape. Its appropiate, the graphics suck though. This is probably because they want it to be extrememly system friendly. (On high settings it recommends 128 MB RAM and 500 MHz CPU) Its also kind of addicting, here is a direct link(its a mideivil game, but some modern content like what they say, such as "What about treasuses for ME?")

RuneScape

Also its free, unless you want to subscribe to be a member for $5.00 but you get a lot more bonuses for being a member, people also hardly swear and curse, its sort of bleeped out, and If someones calling you names that they cant bleep out, you can put them in your ignore list, and it blocks all communication with thtat particular username, but if there is to many people, you can select Public chat for friends only, the people who are nice to you like help out with getting stuff and doing quests. I am a member on that game, and I will be glad to help anyone who decides to join the game and i promise I do NOT swear or curse. My name on there is Techy25. Just put me in your friends list and say hello. Tell me your from ts, i will help you out with a quest or two.

This particular post is long and maybe optimistic, but if someone likes a good game, try it out its totally awesome. Also does anyone have xfire? If so say hello on there my name is techy94. hope to see you on!

Just want to say thanks again for all the suggestions. I think this is my most successful thread ever :) I'm going to get Half-Life 2 today. I hope other people who were looking for some good online games got some good info too, every game mentioned is really good. I wish I had the time and money to get them all... but I don't think anyone would ever see me again :haha:

Hmm, Half-life 2 is fun. If your pc can't handle it, get a better graphic card (6600 256MB or 6600GT 128MB) and 1GB RAM. 100th post OWNED :unch:

Yeah, I think a graphics card will be my next buy. Do you know what joseywales 09 got? That sounds good.
btw I don't believe for a second that you're 11. Call me paranoid but... you're having a laugh. You know too much. :haha:
