grand theft auto san andreas for PC sounds problems?

when ever i play gta, i can only hear some of the sounds i.e. only gunshots and background noises, and i cannot hear sounds like cars, dialogue etc.

am i missing a codec that is needed for gta?

Before you run the game, try setting your speakers to two speakers (stereo) then launch the game & see if you still have the problem.
