It’s not just movie and TV stars that have to deal with dangerous fans. A man who developed an obsession with former Rooster Teeth host and cosplayer Meg Turney broke into the house she shares with her boyfriend—YouTuber Gavin Free—with the sole intent of harming someone who resides there, according to a search warrant obtained by KXAN

23-year-old Christopher Giles made an 11-hour journey from his home in Rio Ranch, New Mexico, to the couple’s house in Austin, Texas. An affidavit obtained by the Albuquerque Journal described Giles as “an avid player of video games and was known for watching YouTube videos that were centered on his hobby.”

Notes on Giles’ phone suggest he had “developed a fondness of Turney.” He was apparently jealous of Free, creator of the popular YouTube series The Slow Mo Guys, and resented him for his lifestyle and success. “Threatening thoughts were recorded by Giles and directed toward Gavin Free, I.e., ‘I want Gavin Free to die alone, with no children,’” the court documents read.

Giles arrived at Turney and Free’s residence at around 3:40 am on January 26. The couple awoke to the sound of a gunshot and shattering glass, before hearing someone enter the house through the back door. The pair hid in their bedroom closet and called 911 while Giles was looking for them.

Giles left the home when he couldn’t find the pair. As he was backing his car out of the driveway, Austin Police Department officers arrived and ordered him to stop and leave the vehicle. Instead, police say they heard a single shot coming from the car. One officer returned fire. Giles was pronounced dead at the scene with a .45 caliber handgun by his side. Examiners are still trying to determine if the wound was self-inflicted.

“Based upon the known circumstances and investigative findings, your affiant is led to believe that evidence related to the planned burglary and homicides of Megan Turney and Gavin Free will be found,” a detective wrote in the affidavit.

Both Turney and Free have assured fans they are okay. “I just wanted to say thanks for all the support and concern regarding the recent incident,” tweeted Free. “It’s been a rough time for Meg and myself the last few weeks but we are doing ok.”

What is wrong with people. Being so jealous of a youtube personality you try to kill them....

What drives some people to be this angry, this spiteful? What drives them to try and run the lives of people they dont know over video games? Why dont they take that energy and just...improve peoples lives instead?

The whole world has gone mad.

You have to understand that these stalker types are not normal. This is not a "people" issue, it's a "nut" issue.

God some people truly are weird "Oh look, a hot girl on the internet, better get extremely jealous and go hurt them!".

No, not weird, sick, and not in the sickening type of sick, in the real doctor's way to declare a sickness. You can't reason with, you can't find any logic behind it, because there are unbalanced people in the world who really don't know any better and have not had the chance or the means to actually try and get better, some of them don't want to.

It's truly sad, for them, and for others that cross path with them in such a way as this youtuber couple.

Quite sad it ended up with suicide, but better than a double homicide I suppose. Obviously this man needed help, and didn't know how or where to get it. Or maybe he didn't even realize it. That's way too common of a problem in this country...Add that to the list.

Some people think that when an internet personality speaks to them online or responds to their messages that they become friends and they treat them just like real life friends. When they try to get too close and get rejected they feel like they were betrayed. I have a feeling that this is what happened.

Someone on their right mindset would never think about shooting them because he/she got rejected, it's not a thing about being lonely, it's being imbalanced that brings out the problems.
