Help installing hdd

I have been trying to install my 120GB Maxter hd and the computer wont find the hd. it is quite old and it used to work fine. I suspect that it failed when i reformated my computer a while back. I've been trying to install it for a while and the bios finds it but it wont work properly Please help

Double check the jumper settings and the power and data cables. If all checks fine then download the diagnostic tools from seagate and burn to a disk so you can boot off of that and make sure your drive isn't toast.

It would be helpful to have more information.
Is this a new drive you are installing in an old computer? Is it the same drive you had all along, but reformatted? Does your BIOS recognize it as a 120GB drive? What do you mean by installing? Installing a physical drive as your primary HDD or installing WinXP on an existing drive?

Is it connected to a controller card such as a promise ultra ATA 133?
