Hi there,
New to this forum, but it is probably where I need to be. I have always been careful with my computer, and regularly run assorted spy/mal/ad ware tools, aside from the security suite running in the background, but I think that someone using my computer did something stupid, as all of a sudden, my browsers, both IE and Firefox are getting re-directed from Google searches to Bing. It is almost as if Microsoft had written the malware. I tried all sorts of scans and then hit the net, and found my way here.
I found the eight steps (now six apparently) and tried to follow them. I could never get GMER to run properly. Once you click on it, it begins running before you can either select or unselect any of the boxes. I have tried running it in safe mode, and it locked up windows. I managed to get the "devices" box unchecked, but still no luck in getting it to run to completion.
I really need to clean up this machine, and really do not want to go through a full reformat and reload. Any help would be most appreciated. TIA Steve
