Solved How can I check flash drive

How can I check a flash drive for virus, malware, etc. before I open it? On my old laptop several years ago I had some type of program that had an icon on my desktop and when I clicked on it it would check the flash drive before I opened it. I googled it but only found several sites from several years ago and no way to know if they are safe.

Install Panda USB Vaccine, or BitDefender’s USB Immunizer on your computer to protect it from any infected USB device.
Plug USB device in.
Scan it with your AV program.

It doesn't have to be just a flash drive. You can also disinfect any other movable drives in the same way. Be sure they are connected to the computer when you run the program.
