How do I configure my video card the way i want it

I was checking all the options that my vga has. The only thing is I dont know what are the video card´s limits as to perfomance, etc, etc. Am just another gamer looking for tips, on to how to configure an ati x700 without burning it or somethin. Help please!!!!
