How does it happen? Life after death

You boot up your computer & on the black screen, white lettering it says; No OS / No harddrive found. Or words to that effect?? That happened to the laptop I am typing on now. Stuck it in my closet to fix later. A few years later I brought it out asking this question . After no response I removed battery & plugged it in & turned it on. It went right to the desktop waiting for my password. I sat there stunned, how? Not knowing my password, I started tapping keys. Screen blinked a few times, some beeps, long , short & very loooooong pulsating ones. It eventually came up to the normal set up screens & finally to the desktop.
I posted other questions in here but after no replies , I asked Broni to help. He deemed it clean so I posted this
So anyhow, can somebody tell me how a dead computer/laptop can come back to life??? Thanks to @Broni @jobeard @Julio Franco & the many many viewers, I'm still learninmypc / laptop

Needed to lose charge, reset, recharge - same idea as a power cycle....and, yes, I am guessing.
