HP Pavilion dv6t display flicker

So, this laptop display started flickering a ways back when the battery was in but not when plugged in. Eventually, it started flickering when it was plugged in. I ended up using it as a CPU and plugging in external monitors, and eventually, the laptop monitor went completely dark, though the screen was still visible when I used a flashlight to see it. All external monitors run just fine on it, so it's not the video card. It's a slow machine anyway, so I bought a different laptop and want to use this as a backup. I'm a medical transcriptionist and if my computer fails, I can't work.

After the monitor went totally dark, I did some research, and I ended up buying a power inverter for it, replacing it myself. The first one I got from a seller on Ebay flickered like mad and went dark almost immediately. I got a refund then purchased another one.

This one brought the screen back to normal brightness, but there is a slow rolling flicker that starts with a slow pulse as the computer boots and speeds up as the desktop loads.

So, is this another bad power inverter? Or is something else going on?

Well if you replace the inverter twice and it is still doing this, your problem will sadly fall back to the whole screen itself.

This is what you want that new inverter replacement, also if your up to it and have patience.
Run it by a good computer store maybe geeksquad, speak to the lead technician and ask if that maybe the problem.
Also one of mods here will help you out, I would go with you but I am banned from there. :)

Yeah, I'm beginning to think so too. The seller has a very high rating so I don't think it's just dodgy parts. This power inverter has also gone dark, but I think the screen is probably the culprit. It has an orange tint on startup, which is not a good sign.

The key is getting the correct screen as a replacement. This is a dv6t, which is different from a dv6000. But there are different models even in the dv6t line. Guess I'll have to download the HP Support Assistant, which I uninstalled a long time ago because who needs it, just to find out which precise model it is.

Thanks for your help. I feel comfortable replacing most parts myself if I can get to them easily. I've watched a video on screen replacement, and it looks pretty straightforward as long as I don't touch the electronics.
