[Inactive] Multiple iexplorers.exe

Hello helpful folks of the web,

I had a strange problem while using firefox. I experienced a lot of freezing of my windows, and in frustration, I unstall firefox and started using IE. However after using IE, I noticed that I would have 2-4 iexplorer.exe in my task manager. Also, I still experienced a lot of the freezing that occurred during my use of firefox. These instances would only be rectified if i closed one of the multiple iexplorer.exe via the task manager.

I have followed the instructions of the thread entitled:

UPDATED 8-step Viruses/Spyware/Malware Preliminary Removal Instructions

I ran a virus scan with my Norton Anti-virus, and removed 34 cookie tracking programs. After running the malwarebytes Anti-Malware, there was no malware detection.

Here's my gmer log:

Please help! I really don't want to reformat my computer, due to laziness and my gamer lifestyle. But after these preliminary steps, the multiple iexplorer.exe still exists. Thanks in advanced.

:update:
I am using firefox once again, and have yet to experience the multiple iexplorer or the crashing that i had previously. perhaps the virus scan and temp file cleansing fixed it?

I've attached all the logs that were required on the original thread. tytyty

However after using IE, I noticed that I would have 2-4 iexplorer.exe in my task manager.
.
Important! Does it happen with IE closed?

Malwarebytes log is missing.

Hey, appreciate the response.

Now that I use firefox, I have not noticed the multiple IEs. However, when I tried opening IE, than closing it, I notice that the iexplore.exe do not close in the task manager. This is what occurs.

Opening IE causes 2 iexplore.exe, one which is 30,320 K while the other is 16,636 K. When I close the IE window, both remain. If I open IE once again, a third iexplore.exe around 30,000 K will appear, and remain after I close the window. Upon opening IE for the third time, the IE fails to load completely, or at least quickly. Also, a new iexplore.exe fails to appear on the task manager.

However, once I end all the iexplore.exe through task manager, and continue using firefox, the problem does not occur. I have been using firefox for 2 hours now, and have not noticed any problems, either with iexplore.exe or the freezing problem which I noticed beforehand.

I am more than happy to not use IE, but any ideas to why this problem occurs would be greatly appreciated.

I attached the walwarebytes log too. THANK YOU! My mom thinks you're awesome, and so do I.

Hahaha....

once i end all the iexplore.exe through task manager, and continue using firefox, the problem does not occur
That's good, but let's check something to make sure...

Download MBRCheck to your desktop

Double click MBRCheck.exe to run (Vista and Windows 7 users, right click and select Run as Administrator).
It will show a black screen with some data on it.
A report called MBRcheckxxxx.txt will be on your desktop
Open this report and post its content in your next reply.

I was joking. :) no parental guidance involved here.

but onwards, i dunno if this is what you're looking for....but here it is.

MBRCheck, version 1.1.1

(c) 2010, AD

\\.\C: --> \\.\PhysicalDrive0

Size Device Name MBR Status

--------------------------------------------

74 GB \\.\PhysicalDrive0 Windows XP MBR code detected

Done! Press ENTER to exit...

much obliged

Looks good :)

Please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**
  1. Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed.
  2. Close any open browsers.
  3. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
    • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
    • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
NOTE1. If Combofix asks you to install Recovery Console, please allow it.
NOTE 2. If Combofix asks you to update the program, always do so.
    • Close any open browsers.
    • WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts
    • Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
    • If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection.
  4. Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  5. When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  6. Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt"
**Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

Make sure, you re-enable your security programs, when you're done with Combofix.

DO NOT make any other changes to your computer (like installing programs, using other cleaning tools, etc.), until it's officially declared clean!!!

Looks clean :)

Uninstall Combofix:
Go Start > Run [Vista users, go Start>"Start search"]
Type in:
Combofix /Uninstall
Note the space between the "Combofix" and the "/Uninstall"
Click OK (Vista users - press Enter).
Restart computer.

Download OTL to your Desktop.

* Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
* Under the Custom Scan box paste this in:

  • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows: OTL.txt and Extras.txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
  • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post them back here.

Update your Java version here: http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp

Note 1: UNCHECK any pre-checked toolbar and/or software offered with the Java update. The pre-checked toolbars/software are not part of the Java update.

Note 2: The Java Quick Starter (JQS.exe) adds a service to improve the initial startup time of Java applets and applications. If you don't want to run another extra service, go to Start > Control Panel > Java > Advanced > Miscellaneous and uncheck the box for Java Quick Starter. Click OK and restart your computer.

Now, we need to remove old Java version and its remnants...

Download JavaRa to your desktop and unzip it to its own folder
  • Run JavaRa.exe (Vista users! Right click on JavaRa.exe, click Run As Administrator), pick the language of your choice and click Select. Then click Remove Older Versions.
  • Accept any prompts.

It doesn't happen too often, but your OTL log is perfectly clean.
You keep your computer very lean :)
