Is a 2 in 1 good or bad? Will it last longer or shorter than other laptops?

If I'm interpreting image search correctly, 2 in 1 refers to the category of laptop where the screen can separate from the keyboard, yes?

Personally I have no experience with the form factor. I would assume that, if the connectors are of decent quality, it should last the same as any other laptop, so I'd target my research on that salient point before settling on a brand.

On a personal level, I dislike the idea just because it means you have a laptop that's in two discrete parts instead of one, and while the screen section can theoretically independently function on its own, the keyboard section turns into so much e-waste if the screen is lost. If the keyboard section has its own processor, of course, and a monitor hookup, maybe not so much, but having two independent CPUs in both halves of the device seems like it would also drive up the cost considerably. I'd rather invest in a Yoga or like convertible that can turn the screen all the way around to make the device work like a tablet.

Either way, my real jam is ultraportables like the GPD Win 2 when out and about, and E-ATX desktops at home.

2-in-1 generally refers to laptops that have a screen hinge which allows it to fold completely back on itself - so you can use it as a laptop or a tablet. The ones where you can separate the screen entirely are more commonly referred to as 2-in-1 hybrids.
