Microsoft quietly removes 'Uninstall Edge' page that was just a promotion for its browser

WTF?! Microsoft has removed a recently introduced document called Uninstall Microsoft Edge, which, rather than explaining how to remove the company's browser, did little more than compare Edge to Chrome and highlight reasons to avoid its rival.

Microsoft created the Uninstall Microsoft Edge on Windows 11 document on February 6, reports Windows Latest. It made several headlines due to the fact that it didn't actually tell people how to delete Edge. Instead, it listed six features that Microsoft believes give Edge an advantage over Chrome: Copilot, Vertical Tabs, Designer, Coupons, Read Aloud, and VPN.

While there are plenty who will argue Edge is better than Chrome – despite Google's product holding around 67% of the global browser share – Microsoft's misleading behavior led to significant online backlash. It appears that the company was using search engines to identify those wanting to uninstall Edge and hoped to change their minds.

It seems Redmond has now decided the negative publicity wasn't worth it. The page has been deleted, and visitors are being redirected to Microsoft's Edge portal.

This is the latest tactic Microsoft has used to try to increase, or hold on to, Edge's share of the global browser market, which is currently around 5.2%, according to Statcounter.

It was reported last month that searches for Chrome using Edge and via Bing (when signed out of your Microsoft account) on Windows 11 result in a "promoted by Microsoft" banner appearing at the top of the search results. The banner claimed there was "no need to download a new web browser," and hid the Chrome download links underneath, blurring out the small portion visible at the top.

Microsoft previously told people that Chrome was "so 2008" and Edge was better, and placed full-size Edge ads on the Chrome website. Edge was also accused of stealing data from Chrome without users' consent in January.

Microsoft boss Satya Nadella recently said that Edge has surpassed 30% market share in the US on Windows and has taken share for the last 15 consecutive quarters. However, independent analysis puts a question mark over this statement, though it's likely that he was using a different metric that inflated Edge's market share.

It means there was no official pre- or post-announcement of the removal.
Thank You. Seriously. I have wondered about that. Is it important to announce a move? When it's billed as "quietly" it may lead people to believe something sly is going on.

Well, it was a fake guide titled "How to uninstall Microsoft Edge" which when you go to the page it's just a big advertisement for Edge telling you how great it is without a single word of how to actually uninstall it, nor did it mention that you actually can't uninstall it (unless you are in the EU). So obviously it didn't go over very well hence the quietly taking it down part.

How about neither Chrome nor Edge? UnGoogled Chromium and Brave are really your only options if you don't want the tech giants creeping all over you while browsing.

This doesn't stop many users from removing(deleting) Edge. Edge is untrustworthy trash.

I ripped Edge (and other BS-ware) out of Windows 11 Pro about a year ago. Windows updates ain't changing that, either.

For me, Firefox and all of Mozilla died the day they canceled Brendan Eich.
lol he deserved to get canned. freedom means people can marry who they want to if you don't support equal marriage then don't get married to the opposite sex no one is forcing you.

And there you go, demonstrating the exact problem with cancel culture. Brendan Eich is a man of personal integrity and technical excellence. You have a right to your own opinion. So does he. You do NOT have a right to ruin someone's career because you don't like something about their private personal life.

Or to say it like you did, If you don't like a cause that someone else donated to then don't support it, no one is forcing you.

Eich earned my respect. Brave is the only browser I'll use.

Um he wasn't canceled he stepped down or basically was fired from a job after being shown to donate money to ending gay marriage. That's not an opinion that's an active action to end the rights of someone else because you disagree with them based on religious nonsense. You are free to keep your opinions to yourself but when you voice them to the world your not free of the consequences of those actions. If you don't like that maybe you should move to Afghanistan or north korea or some place where free speech is not a thing. If you are employed in a job they are free to fire you for misrepresenting their values in public and the public at large is free to track you down and create outrage over your *****ic words. You are always free to keep your ideas about the world to yourself no one is forcing you to speak out about them.
Btw he was not actually canceled his personal blog is stll up though it seems like he hasn't updated it in many years. He is also a psycho antivaxxer and a billionaire but we all know conservatives like yourself love the ruling class. Next your going to tell me Elon is a genius and that wasn't a HH salute.

And there we go. Now that you've outed yourself as one of those people, the discussion is over.

Your comment is sarcasm I hope if not Lol anyone who believes in a god that would burn a human being for all eternity is without a doubt evil and you want to worship a god that does that? hahaha you really need to work on your threats because if spending an eternity with people like you in heaven is the option I would rather take door number 2. The horned guy lol I thought the devil was a fallen angel that would mean he is made of light lol where did the horns come from? Typical. The ignorance of your own mythology is of course astounding. The idea of the devil having horns is believed to have originated from ancient pagan deities, particularly from the imagery of horned gods like Pan and the Hindu god Pashupati. All of your mythology is just stolen from pagan sources. Why would anyone with any modicum of intelligence believe such nonsense? More importantly what gives you the right to try to deny basic human rights to others based of your nonsensical fancy beliefs? That in a nutshell is Sharia law but of course Yallqadeah are not smart enough to recognize it or just don't care.
